Job summary
A leading engineering firm in Malaysia is seeking a Mechanical Engineering Manager/Senior Manager to lead the mechanical engineering team. This role involves delivering high-quality designs for automation and material handling systems while ensuring compliance with industry standards. The ideal candidate has over 8 years of experience in mechanical design, strong leadership skills, and proficiency in CAD tools like SolidWorks and AutoCAD. This position offers opportunities for mentoring and collaboration across functional teams.
Qualifications
- 8+ years in mechanical design or application engineering, with 3+ years in leadership.
- Strong experience in automation, machine design, and semiconductor systems.
- Knowledge of SEMI and cleanroom standards preferred.

- Manage and mentor mechanical application engineers.

Role Summary: Lead the mechanical engineering team to deliver high-quality, on-time designs for automation and material handling systems, ensuring full system integration and compliance with industry standards.
- Manage and mentor mechanical application engineers.
- Provide technical leadership in designing custom automation and material handling systems.
- Review and approve conceptual designs, 3D models, 2D drawings, BOMs, and documentation.
- Drive design improvements, standardization, and quality control initiatives.
- Collaborate with Sales, Project Management, Electrical, and Software teams.
- Support technical discussions and presentations with customers (pre- and post-sales).
- Plan resources, recruitment, and performance evaluation.
- Develop and enforce SOPs, design guidelines, and engineering KPIs.
- Assess and mitigate project risks, resolving technical and resource issues.
- Ensure compliance with SEMI, ISO, and internal policies.
- Lead troubleshooting and root cause analysis for escalated issues.
- Manage departmental budgets, tools, and software licenses.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
- 8+ years in mechanical design or application engineering, with 3+ years in leadership.
- Strong experience in automation, machine design, and semiconductor/cleanroom systems.
- Strategic thinker with hands‑on problem‑solving ability.
- Knowledge of mechanical design, ergonomics, safety standards, and manufacturing processes.
- Familiarity with product lifecycle, risk management, FMEA/DOE.
- Experienced with cross‑functional project teams.
- Proficient in CAD tools (SolidWorks, AutoCAD).
- Skilled in mechanical calculations, material selection, and tolerance analysis.
- Knowledge of SEMI and cleanroom standards preferred.
- Able to review and approve complex engineering designs and documentation.
