A leading sugar refinery in Selangor, Malaysia, is seeking a Utilities Manager to oversee the operation and maintenance of plant utilities equipment. This role requires a Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering and 3–5 years of experience in managing steam boilers and turbine operations. Responsibilities include coordinating preventive maintenance, ensuring regulatory compliance, and leading utilities improvement projects. The ideal candidate will possess a strong technical background and effective team leadership skills, fostering a culture of safety and efficiency.
Accountable for the smooth operation and maintenance of plant utilities equipment, including Water Tube Steam Boilers, Steam Turbine and Air compressors & other related mechanical equipment’s, ensuring stable operations, minimal downtime, and optimal steam and compressed air usage.
Review and verify all check sheets and logbooks, monitor key operating parameters, conduct daily operational meetings, and perform boiler water analysis to ensure accurate and reliable utilities data.
Facilitate and coordinate corrective maintenance activities with workshops, electrical, instrumentation, power plant teams, and vendors, ensuring work is executed via SAP PM, parts are sourced properly, and equipment isolation is maintained for safety.
Plan and execute preventive maintenance activities according to equipment manuals, statutory regulations, and compliance requirements, including annual inspections and vendor-engaged PM work, to improve efficiency and prevent sudden breakdowns.
To liaise with DOSH to ensure the safety standards and regulatory requirement are met.
Ensure all maintenance work complies with HSE requirements by preparing Job Safety Analysis (JSA), HIRARC, and Permit to Work (PTW) documentation, evaluating potential hazards, and promoting safety awareness to reduce lost time injuries.
Provide daily coaching, briefings, and knowledge-sharing sessions to boilermen and utilities staff to strengthen maintenance planning, scheduling, and breakdown elimination while fostering teamwork.
Lead utilities improvement projects, manage budgets and resources, monitor Repair and Maintenance (RUM) and CAPEX costs, prepare project plans and schedules, coordinate cross-department discussions, and enhance overall equipment efficiency, reliability, and recovery after breakdowns.
Qualification:
Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent.
Functional / Technical Skills & Knowledge:
Strong knowledge of operation and maintenance of steam boilers, steam turbine, air compressor and other utilities & mechanical equipment.
Familiarity with regulations governing steam boilers and unfired pressure vessels under OSHA 2024.
Years of Experience:
3–5 years of experience in managing boiler, steam turbine operation and maintenance.
Additional Certification:
Minimum 2nd Grade Steam Engineer Certificate of Competency.
