JOB SUMMARY
Chemist III will lead analytical research related to treated water quality, including the development and implementation of Quality Assurance (QA) and Quality Control (QC) programs. He/she will be responsible for conducting research to enhance analytical methods and processes for drinking water analysis. As part of continuous improvement efforts, he/she must liaise with the District/Regional Technical Manager (TM) regarding water quality issues, particularly in cases of violations and remedial actions. Directly report to the Head of Section and involves reviewing and improving the laboratory’s quality system. He/she must possess knowledge of the tasks under their supervision, along with a solid foundation in chemistry principles, technical expertise, and relevant skills.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Laboratory Documentation
- Responsible in documentation setup related to lab operation and maintenance
- Assist in reviewing method of analysis for lab testing
- Establish technical requirement of lab analysis e.g. measurement uncertainty, method validation & verification, quality control and etc.
- Responsible in maintaining and setup form, worksheet, check list and etc. on current basis.
- Ensuring all the testing certificates issued within “Turn Around Time” that has been agreed.
- Responsible in combination of Quality Manual, Quality Procedures & Test Instruction from all Regional Laboratories
- Responsible in reporting results for test of samples during pollution / ERP
Lab Analysis & Quality Control
- Approved Signatory for chemical analysis as assigned by management
- Responsible in performing any adhoc testing (jartest, process treatment, chemical lab scale etc)
- Responsible in reporting of opinions and interpretation of result
- Ensure adequate resources e.g. equipment, supplies and personnel for quality assurance programmed in order to ensure confidence in laboratory analysis result
- Ensure person in charge of instrument is well trained for the duties performing
- Responsible in performing QA/QC for water analysis, analysis for development new accredited method of analysis and existing selected method of analysis
- Responsible in performing water analysis meeting holding time, capability, and capacity priorities
- Ensure correct preparation of sampling bottle, preservative, and reagent or standard (CRM) used in order sufficient analysis was conducted
- To conduct proficiency testing for related lab analysis
- Ensure water quality result in accordance with MOH specification and lab environment meeting the sample analysis control criteria
- To apply root cause and corrective action taken when resolving analysis problems
- To perform lab analysis to investigate root cause when there is a water quality violation
- Assist in any operation-related especially concerning the water quality as a team by collaborating with other department and investigate the root cause when there is a violation of water quality.
Laboratory Operation & Maintenance
- Responsible for the procurement of reagents, consumables, and instrument spare parts.
- Ensure updated inventory of lab equipment, reagents, test kit and etc.
- Ensure all lab equipment and test kit calibrated accordingly and qualified in used
- Assist in preparation of standard and handling of ICPMS and GCMS equipment for analyzing the samples
Laboratory Accreditation
- To establish, implement and maintain Quality System accordance to MS ISO/IEC 17025 requirements
- Coordinate lab accreditation programmer
- To establish quality control criteria and ethical requirements as per ISO 17025 lab management
LIMS
- To maintain, update and troubleshoot LIMS according to current analysis requirement.
Others
- To ensure proper PPE and safe working condition implement during conduct laboratory analysis
- To ensure proper implementation of schedule waste disposal in the laboratory
- To involve in water quality analysis report and other related ISO system e.g. ISO 9001 and etc.
- Any other tasks as and when assigned by management / superior
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Science; Chemistry or related science.
- At least 3 years in analytical laboratory experience, preferred
- Familiarized with APHA Standard Method, able to perform laboratory procedure according to APHA method
- Have technical knowledge and skills e.g., water quality analysis.
- Associate Member of Institut Kimia Malaysia.
- Able to meet deadline and work under pressure
- Good in technical report writing and fluent in English speaking.
- Work independently with minimum supervision
