Job summary
A manufacturing company in Penang is looking for a Production Team Leader to manage a team of production operators. The role involves ensuring quality and efficiency in operations, conducting necessary training, and engaging in troubleshooting and continuous improvement processes. The ideal candidate should possess a Bachelor's degree in a relevant engineering field and have at least three years of experience in welding processes. Leadership and strong problem-solving skills are essential for success in this role.
Qualifications
- At least 3 years of experience in welding processes related to MIG/TIG/Flux-core/Robotic welding.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication, knowledge of robotic welding and jig/fixture fabrication will be advantageous.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of production operators to meet quality, cost, delivery, and responsiveness requirements.
- Ensure operators’ discipline, attendance, and compliance with standard operating procedures.
- Conduct on-job training and certifying operators for assigned operations.
- Assist in executing the daily production plan schedule.
- Involved in product introduction and improvements with the engineering team.
- Participate in troubleshooting operational problems with internal technical teams.
- Engage in process improvement and cost-saving activities.
- Respond to quality problems detected by customers and internal departments.
- Plan resources and capacity for shifts and overtime arrangements.
- Provide training and certification on processes and equipment operation.
- Complete other tasks assigned by management.

Job description
Responsibilities
- Require to lead a team of production operators to meet quality, optimum cost, delivery (QCD) and responsiveness requirements.
- Ensure operators’ discipline, attendance, standard operating procedure compliance and good 5s’ housekeeping practice are being observed and monitored at all times. Any deviations observed must be corrected immediately.
- Ensure operators are well trained by providing on‑job training and certified to run assigned operations by understanding operator’ workforce capability and appraising their performance.
- Assist in executing the daily production plan schedule to meet shipment plan.
- Compulsory to involve technically with any product during NPI (New Product Introduction) / FA (First Article) stage, and work closely with Product/Process Engineering team to provide feedback/findings for any required improvements (process parameters & control, jig & fixture, tooling, equipment, operator skillset) to ensure smooth transfer of new product until mass production.
- Initiate and work with the internal technical team (Product/Process/Manufacturing Engineering & QA) to participate in troubleshooting operational problems and provide recommendations/solutions to minimize production rejection rate and disruptions.
- Involve in process improvement and cost‑saving activities. Provide feedback on high rejection rate/long cycle‑time items and work with Product/Process Engineering team to seek permanent solutions.
- Take prompt actions in response to MRR, NCR, 8‑D or any quality problems detected by customer, QA and other internal departments, including disposition of rejection, purging activity, containment actions, and assist operators to improve routine process & quality problems.
- Plan resources and capacity to determine working shifts and overtime arrangements when necessary, and ensure productivity outputs meet planned targets.
- Provide training, retraining, certification & re‑certification on processes, documentation & equipment operation to all operators at manufacturing/operations. Training programs include theory & practical training observations of actual work followed by Theory & Practical Tests.
- Carry out any other tasks assigned by the Production Section Head, Assistant Manufacturing Manager and Production Manager.
Qualifications
- Candidate must possess at least a bachelor’s degree in Welding, Mechanical, Mechatronic, or Manufacturing System Engineering.
- Preferably with at least 3 years of experience in welding processes, related to MIG/TIG/Flux‑core/Robotic welding.
- Experience in sheet metal fabrication, knowledge of robotic welding and jig/fixture fabrication will be advantageous.
