APPLIED AGRICULTURAL RESOURCES Sdn. Bhd. was established in 1986 and is an associate company of two highly successful public-listed Malaysian companies, Boustead Plantations Berhad and Kuala Lumpur Kepong Berhad. As a leading research centre in tropical plantation crops, our core activities involve research in crop improvement and production, providing advisory services for plantation crops, and producing and selling oil palm tissue culture ramets and seeds.

About the Research Unit

The R&D Lab Unit at AAR plays a pivotal role in advancing research and development initiatives aimed at integrating chemistry into Good Agricultural Practices (GAP) to optimise oil palm cultivation. Our primary objective is to support the crop production division in ensuring we are in forefront with new techinuqes and technology to improve our laboratory method and broaden the scope of testing.

Method Development R&D

We develop novel analytical techniques to explore beyond conventional parameters, aiding precise decision-making in the plantation

Method Improvement R&D

We enhance our current laboratory methods to improve efficiency and productivity in our commercial analytical testing services

Collaboration with Crop Production

We provide internal laboratory services and work with crop production department to support and complement their research program

Your Role

We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Graduate Research Assistant to join our team on a two-year contract, with the potential for an extension based on performance.

Duration: Two years, with the possibility of extension at two-year intervals.

Performance Evaluation: Based on performance and contribution, successful candidates may have the opportunity to transition to permanent employment.

Requirements

Possess a Bachelor of Science (BSc) or higher degree in Chemistry from a recognised institution with a minimum CGPA of 3.50

Strong academic foundation in analytical chemistry, instrumental analysis, and laboratory-based research

Demonstrated ability to conduct independent scientific research, including experimental planning, execution, and documentation

Experience or exposure to research projects, final-year projects, or postgraduate research is highly advantageous

Ability to critically evaluate scientific literature and translate findings into practical laboratory applications

Committed to maintaining high standards of laboratory safety, data integrity, and research ethics

Willing to work in a research-intensive laboratory environment and meet project timelines and deliverables

Responsibilities
  • Develop and validate NIR methods for the analysis of soil, fertiliser, and oil palm leaf samples.
  • Design and establish laboratory protocols for the quantification of labile and non-labile soil carbon fractions through organic carbon fractionation techniques.
  • Conduct comprehensive literature reviews and formulate analytical frameworks for the detection and assessment of microplastics in agricultural soils and water.
  • Carry out research to evaluate fertiliser quality beyond standard analytical parameters, supporting improved agronomic decision-making.
  • Perform experimental work, data analysis, method optimisation, and result interpretation in support of R&D objectives.
  • Prepare technical documentation, research summaries, and experimental reports in accordance with laboratory standards.
  • Support chemists in laboratory administrative tasks, including documentation, record keeping, and compliance with research protocols
  • Assist in maintaining laboratory organisation, equipment readiness, and research documentation
  • Assist chemists in laboratory experiments and research activities as required.
  • Contribute to day-to-day laboratory operations and support ongoing R&D initiatives as assigned.
