The purpose of this role is to support and strengthen ISKL’s position as a leader in international education by preserving its rich culture, diversity and reputation through the contributions of its Elementary School Department.

To achieve this purpose, the Trainee Teacher is supervised by the Elementary School Principal and works in partnership with a Elementary School teacher mentor to be inspired, challenged, and equipped with attitudes, skills, knowledge and understanding to become an outstanding educational practitioner and teacher, with the amazing potential to transform lives.
The role of the Trainee Teacher is to commit to a dedicated and systematic approach on a pathway to being a professionally recognised teacher in the respective department/division. This will require the Trainee Teacher to perform the responsibilities normally assigned to a teacher.
In carrying out the job purpose, the Trainee Teacher instills and promotes the vision of ISKL, for students to know themselves, care for all, and create a better world. Every action taken in this role must be consistent with the ISKL Mission where it provides an inclusive and dynamic environment for our students where their passions, values, and competencies are cultivated with the intention to inspire and shape their paths as global citizens.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The Trainee Teacher will be involved in shadowing a teacher in his/her area of study, and engaging in professional development opportunities in the education field or assisting with any other duties as assigned.
Follow lesson plans provided by the Teacher Mentor to create a cohesive and consistent learning experience for students
Manage the classroom effectively to encourage student participation, minimize distractions and maintain a positive learning environment
Adapt teaching methods to fit the needs of each individual student
Supervise students in and out of the classroom
Provide in-class and at-home assignments based on the available lesson plan
Use professional judgment and students’ prior levels of attainment to set appropriate and demanding targets for learning
Fully support the team teachers in preparing all related materials for teacher’s teaching use as required
Specific duties may vary from time to time and will be assigned according to the specific strengths of the successful candidate.

QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
A valid Teacher's Certification or Teaching Degree is preferred, though candidates who are currently pursuing or pending full certification of a teaching qualification are also eligible
Successful teaching/school experience may be required or desired
Malaysian citizenship or residence permit is required
