A leading engineering firm in Penang is seeking an experienced Business Development Manager to expand its client base in the construction and engineering sectors. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of experience, strong negotiation skills, and the ability to build relationships with clients. Fluency in Mandarin is highly preferred due to client engagement requirements. This role involves developing sales strategies, preparing business proposals, and achieving sales targets.

Responsibilities
Proactively seek out new business through cold calling, networking, industry events and partnership. Develop and maintain a strong pipeline of leads
Conduct market research and competitor analysis to identify potential clients, markets, and partnerships. Analyze industry trends to recognize new opportunities for growth.
Develop and execute business development strategies to grow the company’s footprint and implement strategies to acquire new clients, close deals and meet or exceed sales targets.
Prepare and present business proposals, negotiation terms and manage the sales process from start to finish.
Gather market intelligence to understand competitors, market conditions and client needs. Use Information to develop competitive strategies and identification new market segment.
Build and maintain strong relationships with clients, consultants, contractors, and industry stakeholders. Serve as primary point of contact for clients, ensuring excellent customer service and satisfaction.
Collaborate with internal teams to tailor proposals and solutions that meet client needs.
Lead negotiations with potential clients, ensuring favourable terms for the company. Finalize contracts and agreements to close deals successfully.
Track sales performance, client acquisition and revenue growth. Prepare regular reports and presentations for senior management, highlighting progress towards goal.
Monitor project pipelines and ensure alignment with revenue target.
Stay up to date with industry trends, sale techniques and best practices. Seek opportunities to improve personal performance and company sales process.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, or related field. Master of Business Administration is a plus.
Minimum 8‑10 years of experience in business development preferably in construction, engineering related to data center, semiconductor, pharmaceutical, solar industries.

Strong understanding of project life‑cycle, tendering processes, and client engagement.
Excellent in communication, negotiation, marketing and presentation skills.
Strategic thinker with a proactive and entrepreneurial mindset.
Ability to work independently and travel as needed.
Fluency in Mandarin (speaking and reading) is highly preferred, as a significant portion of the role involves high‑level engagement with key Mandarin speaking. Also fluent in Bahasa Melayu and English
