A global energy company is seeking an experienced Senior Legal Counsel in Malaysia. The role includes providing strategic legal support for compliance, managing legal documents and contracts, and ensuring adherence to Malaysian laws and PETRONAS regulations. Candidates should have over 7 years of experience in corporate legal advisory within the Oil & Gas sector. The position demands excellent legal drafting and negotiation skills, with a focus on dispute management and compliance.
Qualifications
- 7+ years of experience in corporate legal advisory and compliance in Oil & Gas.
- In-depth knowledge of PETRONAS regulations and Malaysian corporate laws.
- Strong experience in litigation management and engaging with external counsel.

We are seeking a dynamic Senior Legal Counsel to provide strategic legal support and ensure compliance across TotalEnergies' operations in Malaysia.
Your Impact
- Provide strategic legal advice on all matters related to TotalEnergies' business and operations.
- Draft, review, and negotiate legal documents and contracts, including procurement and commercial agreements.
- Ensure compliance with Malaysian laws, PETRONAS directives, and international standards.
- Monitor and interpret regulatory changes impacting upstream oil & gas operations.
- Manage disputes and litigation, including coordination with external counsel.
- Lead insurance-related matters, including placements and claims.
- Deliver legal awareness training and support continuous improvement of legal processes.
What We Are Looking For
To succeed in this role, you will need:
- A Bachelor's Degree in Law (LL.B) from a recognized university; admission to the Malaysian Bar is an advantage.
- 7+ years of experience in corporate legal advisory, compliance, and contract negotiation within Oil & Gas or Energy sectors.
- In-depth knowledge of commercial law, PETRONAS regulations, Malaysian corporate laws, and international legal standards.
- Strong experience in dispute resolution, litigation management, and engagement with external counsel.
- Excellent legal drafting, negotiation, and communication skills in English.
- Ability to balance legal risk with business objectives in a dynamic environment.
