SLS comprises business units such as Retail Mass, Corporate, Risk and Savings, Glacier, and various enabling functions. The Sanlam Life and Savings Office provides strategic direction, coordination, and governance oversight to meet business objectives.
What will you do?
Main responsibilities:
- Data Modelling
- Proficiency in database design, data modelling, and ETL processes
- Experience with data modelling tools (e.g., Erwin, Power Designer, ER/Studio)
- Design Data Models and Raw Vaults independently
- Design and document Business Vaults
- Use data modelling tools like Visio or ER/Studio effectively
Enterprise Vault Layer- Collaborate with stakeholders to design Raw Vault data models using DV
- Manage business glossary and metadata for data discovery within the Enterprise Vault Layer
- Work with developers to review and implement vaults of source systems
- Coordinate with scrum masters and developers for vault deployment across environments
- Ensure data completeness, consistency, and accuracy through automation (data debugging)
Technical Responsibilities- Translate business requirements into specific data needs, identify data sources, tools, and techniques
- Build and implement technical solutions supporting data initiatives
- Write scripts (SQL, Python, etc.), proficient in SQL and other languages
- Automate testing solutions and define UAT tests, seeking automation opportunities
Stakeholder Engagement- Engage with Business and Developers to bridge requirements and solutions
- Present data modelling findings effectively to non-technical stakeholders
What will make you successful in this role?
Qualifications
- Diploma/Degree in IT, Statistics, Data, or Computer Science/Engineering (recommended)
- Experience in data modelling, warehousing, analysis, and profiling
- Business or Systems Analyst certification (advantageous)
Knowledge and Experience
- Over 2 years of experience in data modelling or data warehouse development
- Strong knowledge of relational databases or Hadoop, data modelling (Kimball or Data Vault), and SQL
- Understanding of BI and Data Warehousing lifecycle
- Ability to work under pressure and manage priorities
- Financial services experience is an advantage
- Analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills
- Experience with multiple data sources and databases
- Experience in agile environments, SharePoint, JIRA, and Confluence
