Purpose
The School of Psychology and Clinical Language Sciences is seeking to appoint a Lecturer (Assistant Professor) in Psychology (full-time, Teaching and Research, permanent). The post holder will pursue a personal research programme with clear short- and longer-term plans for the objectives they want to achieve. We welcome applications from candidates with an established track record of research and teaching in areas related to Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Industrial / Organizational Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Educational Psychology, or Social Psychology. The successful applicant will have demonstrable research and teaching skills commensurate with the level of the position and be able to work collaboratively with colleagues and students. The appointee will be expected to support, deliver, and organise a range of innovative research-led teaching and learning activities and assessments, via the development of specialised content for undergraduate and/or postgraduate level degrees. They will also be expected to perform the normal administrative duties of a member of academic staff.

Main duties and responsibilities
Teaching
Provide high-quality teaching (e.g., lectures, tutorials, marking, module convening) to students, across undergraduate and/or postgraduate programmes within and outside your area of expertise
Demonstrate flexibility in teaching responsibilities, including the development and delivery of content both within and beyond your immediate research expertise.
Supervise undergraduate and/or postgraduate research projects and placements.
Reflect on feedback, student performance and peer observation to improve teaching and the student experience.
Provide academic support and guidance to students as an Academic Tutor
Contribute to curriculum development (programme design, implementation and/or assessment) and other activities to enhance the student experience
Research
Conduct high-quality research and disseminate findings in high-quality peer-reviewed journals and presentations to academic audiences to grow the evidence basis in your specialist area.
Pursue opportunities for intra- and inter-disciplinary collaborations with colleagues within and outside the School and University.
Provide support for research activities within the Section, including the supervision of doctoral students
Obtain external funding to undertake new research
Seek opportunities to generate economic, social, and cultural impact through research and engagement.
Administration
Actively participate in School meetings and seminars.
Contribute to effective practical and intellectual leadership and decision-making within the wider
School by taking on administrative roles to support School activities, and by participating in committees or working groups, as required by the Head of School or Head of Section.
Other duties
Undertake other responsibilities aligned with the scope of the role, as assigned by the line manager following appropriate consultation.

Supervision received
Formal line management and mentoring to assist the post holder in satisfying the requirements of the role and progressing their career will be provided by a senior member of the School. Day-to-day guidance on teaching responsibilities will be provided by the Programme Lead and ADTL. Research guidance will be provided by School’s Research Leads.
Supervision given
The successful candidate will supervise undergraduate and postgraduate students.
Contact
The post holder will have frequent contact with staff in both Malaysia and the UK as well as students, applicants, and visitors. Appointees will also be encouraged to develop intra- and extra-institutional collaborations in support of research and student placement activities.
Terms and conditions
This permanent academic position (Teaching and Research, permanent) is available on a full-time basis from 1st August 2025 or as soon as possible thereafter. The post is based at University's Educity campus, Iskandar Puteri, Johor.
Qualifications and Experience
CRITERIA
ATTAINMENT
Masters or PhD in Psychology, Neuroscience, or related discipline
Record of high-quality research publications within the current REF period, commensurate with career stage
Track record of competing for external grant funding for research as PI and/or Co-I
Possibility of licensure as a Counselling / Clinical Psychologist
Fellowship of the Higher Education Academy (HEA) or similar qualification
SKILL REQUIRED
Ability to deliver and organise evidence-based teaching and learning at UG and/or PG levels in one of the identified areas of expertise
Ability to undertake original research and produce high-quality publications as outputs of this in one of the identified areas of expertise
Good organisational and administrative skills
Strong oral and written communication skills
Strong interpersonal skills
Ability to attract external grant funding as PI (lead) or Co-I (co-investigator)
RELEVANT EXPERIENCE
Experience of delivering teaching to UG and/or PG students
Experience of supervising student projects or research placements
Experience of supervising student projects or placements
Experience of developing teaching materials at UG/PG level
Experience of supervising PhD students
KNOWLEDGE
Comprehensive knowledge of current theory, research methodological approaches, and evidence base in discipline area, in relation to your specialist area
Knowledge of good pedagogic practice
OTHER
