Job description
Financial Management & Reporting
- Oversee full spectrum of finance functions including GL, AP, AR, billing, and month-end/year-end closing.
- Prepare timely and accurate monthly management accounts, P&L, balance sheet, and cash flow statements.
- Monitor revenue, gross profit, EBIT, and cost controls across air, ocean, trucking, warehousing, and project cargo.
- Ensure proper revenue recognition in line with freight forwarding practices (accruals, WIP, unbilled revenue).
Budgeting, Forecasting & Analysis
- Prepare annual budgets and rolling forecasts aligned with business targets.
- Analyse variances against budget and prior periods
- Provide commercial insights to management.
- Support pricing decisions by analysing cost structures, margins, and trade lane profitability.
- Track key KPIs such as GP per shipment, yield, DSO, and operating margin.
Cash Flow & Credit Control
- Manage cash flow planning and working capital requirements.
- Oversee credit control, customer credit limits, and collection strategies.
- Monitor ageing reports and reduce overdue receivables and bad debt exposure.
- Liaise with banks on facilities, FX exposure, and cash management.
Cost Control & Payables Management
- Ensure timely processing and payment of vendor invoices (airlines/ IATA, shipping lines, hauliers, & agents).
- Monitor accruals and provisions for freight costs and overseas agent charges.
- Negotiate payment terms with vendors to optimize cash flow.
- Control overhead costs and ensure compliance with approved budgets.
Compliance, Audit & Governance
- Ensure compliance with statutory, tax, and regulatory requirements (SST, withholding tax).
- Coordinate internal and external audits and ensure timely resolution of audit findings.
- Maintain strong internal controls and SOPs across finance operations.
- Ensure compliance with group finance policies (if part of a regional or global network)
Systems & Process Improvement
- Manage and optimize Cargowise systems for finance and billing accuracy.
- Drive process improvements and automation to enhance efficiency and controls.
- Ensure accurate job costing and integration between operations and finance.
- Support digital transformation initiatives within finance.
Risk Management
- Identify financial, credit, FX, and operational risks and recommend mitigation measures.
- Monitor exposure to agent disputes, claims, and contingencies.
- Ensure adequate insurance coverage and compliance with risk policies.
Education Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration (mandatory)
- Master’s degree (MBA / MSc in Finance or Accounting) is an advantage
- Professional certifications such as CPA, ACCA, or CFA are highly preferred
Experience & Skills
- Minimum 6–10 years of finance/accounting experience
- At least 3 years in a managerial or supervisory role
- Experience in freight forwarding, logistics, shipping, or supply chain is highly preferred
- Strong knowledge of financial reporting standards and taxation
- Proficient in accounting software and MS Excel
- Strong analytical, leadership, and communication skills
