Job summary

A healthcare provider in Kuala Lumpur is seeking a qualified Pharmacy Technician who will assist in ensuring the smooth operation of the pharmacy department. Responsibilities include medication dispensing, supervising pharmacy staff, and maintaining accurate records. The ideal candidate must hold a Diploma in Pharmacy, have a good command of English and Bahasa Malaysia, and possess at least 2-3 years of experience in a private hospital. This role requires the ability to work in shifts and adhere to operational policies.

Qualifications

  • Diploma in Pharmacy or a valid license from the Ministry of Health is required.
  • Minimum 2-3 years of experience in a private hospital is necessary.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively in English and Bahasa Malaysia.

Job description
Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Assist the Pharmacy Manager to ensure the smooth operation of the pharmacy Department.
  2. Assist in the dispensing and distribution of drugs.
  3. Assist in the day-to-day supervision of pharmacy technicians.
  4. Screen incoming prescriptions.
  5. Ensure the medication orders are entered into dispensing program accurately and software utilized correctly.
  6. Fill up the prescription according to the direction given.
  7. Maintain accurate dispensing records and ensure that the medication is labelled with the correct drug name, strength, quantity, directions for use, patient’s name and include any additional information. Provide a second-check on all medication issued.
  8. Adhere to practice policies and procedures for dispensing medicines, in particular those relating to expensive and controlled drugs.
  9. Ensure that the correct medication and prescription is given to the patient, confirming the details shown on the prescription form and the label and confirming the dosage instructions where appropriate.
  10. Provide clear, understandable instructions to outpatients and discharged patients in a language known to patients.
  11. Compound preparations as required by nursing units.
  12. Dispatch drugs to nursing units with proper care and security during transit.
  13. Liaise with members of the clinical team regarding medication for individual patients.
  14. Record requisitions accurately.
  15. Comply with standard operating procedures for storage, recording and requisitions of drugs.
  16. Maintain minimum stock levels of medicines, checking expiry dates and storage conditions.
  17. Prepare purchase orders for approval. Process invoices and maintain price updates.
  18. Prepare reports of medication utilization, billing and inventory levels as required.
  19. Maintain general cleanliness. Maintain dispensary equipment, ensuring it is clean, accurate and in a good state of repair.
  20. Ensure the safe storage of returned and out-of-date medications.
  21. Provide orientation and training of new Pharmacy staff.
  22. Communicate effectively and regularly with other members of the dispensing team to ensure the accurate exchange of information relating to patients and their medication.
  23. Perform any other duties as assigned.
Education and Requirements
  • Diploma in Pharmacy or certificate/license issued by the Ministry of Health.
  • Have good command in both English and Bahasa Malaysia (written and spoken).
  • Must be able to work in shifts and fast-paced environment.
  • Minimum of 2-3 years of working experience in a private hospital.
