We are seeking a compassionate and skilled Patient Counselor to join our IVF Clinic at KPJ Damansara Specialist Hospital. As an Patient Counselor, you will play a crucial role in supporting and guiding individuals and couples through the emotionally challenging journey of assisted reproduction. Your expertise in counseling, emotional support, and fertility treatment processes will be vital in helping our patients make informed decisions and cope with the emotional aspects of fertility treatments, including in vitro fertilization (IVF).

Responsibilities:

Provide empathetic and confidential counseling to patients undergoing or considering IVF treatments, addressing their emotional needs, concerns, and anxieties throughout the process.

Help patients understand the various fertility treatment options, including IVF, and their implications, including success rates, risks, and costs.

Facilitate decision-making by assisting patients in understanding the medical, emotional, and ethical aspects of IVF.

2. Emotional Support

Offer emotional support to patients during the ups and downs of fertility treatments, such as IVF cycles, pregnancy tests, and waiting periods.

Develop personalized coping strategies and stress management techniques for patients and their partners.

Encourage patients to communicate openly about their feelings and help them navigate complex emotional situations.

Collaborate with the medical team to ensure patients have a comprehensive understanding of the IVF process and the required informed consent for treatments.

Assist in the documentation and signing of consent forms, making sure patients are fully aware of their choices and responsibilities.

4. Fertility Treatment Education

Provide detailed information about the IVF procedure, including medication administration, treatment protocols, and the IVF cycle timeline.

Educate patients of lifestyle changes that may enhance fertility and increase the chances of successful IVF outcomes.

5. Support Groups and Workshops

Organize and facilitate support groups and workshops for patients and their partners to share experiences, builds connections, and promote mutual encouragement.

Collaborate with other healthcare professionals to enhance patients’ overall emotional well-being and coping mechanisms.

6. Coordination with Medical Team

Work closely with fertility specialist, nurses, and other healthcare professionals to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to patient care.

Participate in case conferences and contribute insights from a counseling perspective to improve patient outcomes.

Requirement:

Candidate must possess at least Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, Biology, Life Sciences, or Counselling.

Previous experience in counseling, preferably in a reproductive medicine/IVF setting (Fertility Centre).

Knowledge of fertility treatments, especially IVF procedures, and the emotional challenges associated with infertility.

Excellent communication and active listening skills, with a compassionate and non-judgmental approach.

Excellent communication and writing skills in English and Bahasa Melayu, and proficiency in Mandarin is a plus.

Empathy and sensitivity in handling delicate emotional situations

Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to ethical guidelines.

Strong organizational skills and the ability to work effectively in a multidisciplinary team.

Able to do nursing procedure as and when required.
