LTO Assignment Details Including Required Qualifications

Semester 1 LTO - 3

Periods Right Turn/Elearning Outreach

Reporting to the Principal

of Adult and Continuing Education, the teachers will be responsible for the

instructional delivery and daily student support for the duration of the program.

Teachers are responsible for record keeping and final reporting for their

assigned course.

Right Turn/eLearning

Job Description

Right Turn and eLearning Outreach teachers support at-risk students at

Various Sites In The Simcoe County District School Board

The Right Turn students serviced by the program may be on long-term

suspension (for 6 or more school days) or expelled students.

Right Turn teachers work with the student’s

home school staff (administration, teachers, student success and guidance,

SERTs, etc.) to provide an academic and restorative program focused on the

student’s individual learning needs to support re-entry and integration in the

home school environment. They deliver academics consistent with the

student’s home school classroom. This includes supporting the delivery

and access to academics provided by the home school teacher(s) along with the

development and delivery of learning activities to support the student’s re-entry

to their home school. Teachers may also focus on addressing

learning gaps in student achievement, or non-academic needs (anger management,

drug abuse, or other behavioural issues) that may help the student overcome

challenges.

Teachers will communicate with school staff to receive direction and

assignments students should be working on, including direction to access online

learning formats that teachers have set up for their classes. If a

secondary student transitions to Right Turn for a lengthy period, Right Turn

teachers will deliver, assess, and evaluate curriculum. They may work

collaboratively with classroom teachers where access to an online program has

been established, but will continue to assess and evaluate student work.

The eLearning outreach teachers deliver

core grade 9 and 10 courses through eLearning as a transitional program to re-engage

and support students who are at risk of losing their junior credits.

Students at risk of lengthy suspensions or expulsions are a priority but may

also include students who for various reasons, have restricted ability to

attend regular day school either full or part time. The focus of this

flexible, continuous intake program is to support prevention and intervention

activities to maximize the student’s opportunities for credit attainment and

engaging with a caring adult. Students are referred to the program

through Student Success teams at their home schools.

Credit completion will be communicated to the school through the

completion of transcript maintenance records signed by the Principal/Vice

Principal of the programs recommending a credit be granted.

Teachers will be required to travel to specific Right Turn sites located

throughout Simcoe County. Elearning outreach teachers may be required to travel.
