Job description
POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Coordinator – Conventions & Visitor Services, and the technical direction of the Senior Travel Counsellor, provides information on the City to visitors in a tactful and courteous manner.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provides information relating to the city to visitors and tourists
  • Processes the tourist mail on a daily basis
  • Prepares bulk information kits and individual VIP kits as required
  • Records bulk literature upon arrival and advises supervisor of same
  • Records and registers visitors on the visitor registration system
  • Performs good housekeeping practices in Centre and storage areas
  • Maintains daily inventory of all brochures pertaining to Thunder Bay and the region.
  • Assists in keying of data entry for the section
  • Assists cruise ship passengers at the dockside visitors centre at the Pool 6 site
  • Conducts interpretive talks to visitors relating to subjects such as, but not limited to, Terry Fox, Lake Supervisor, and other local history
  • Attending scheduled events outside the visitor centre when required Performs such other related duties as may be assigned
QUALIFICATIONS
Education/Experience
  • Must be a student registered with a college or university and must be returning to school in the fall
Skills & Abilities
  • Superior customer service skills and ability to deal with the public and staff in a courteous and tactful manner
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and in writin
  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision
  • Must be highly motivated and be able to work well in a team environment
  • Proficient in the use of computers and current related software (Word, Excel)
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Required to wear a departmental uniform
  • Must be willing to work shift work
