POSITION SUMMARY

Under the general supervision of the Supervisor and the direction of the Therapeutic Recreationist on duty, participates in the facilitation programs and activities for the residents.

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Assist Therapeutic Recreationist with activities.
  • Assist with porting residents to and from recreation programs.
  • Provide meaningful, purposeful, individualized programming to residents.
QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience

  • Must be a secondary school graduate and have completed at a minimum of the first year of the Recreation Therapy, Gerontology or Outdoor Recreation at college or university and continue to be enrolled in either of these programs.

Skills & Abilities

  • Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
  • Must be highly motivated and able to work well with the multidisciplinary team.
  • Ability to communicate effectively and concisely, both orally and written.
  • Must have superior customer service skills, with the ability to deal with the public and staff in a courteous and tactful manner.
  • A genuine interest and understanding of the needs of the elderly.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
  • Must be able to push wheelchairs and stand for 1 hour.
  • Must be able to assist ambulatory residents to sit and stand.
CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT
  • Must undergo a successful Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
  • Must provide proof of full COVID-19 vaccination at point of conditional offer
  • Must have successfully undergone a “two step” tuberculosis skin test.
  • Successful completion of the Safe Food Handler training program as mandated by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care.
