IT Director
Bishops seeks the services of an IT Director to lead its dynamic, forward thinking IT Department across the 3 schools, Pre-Prep, Prep and College.
The IT Director at Bishops is responsible for strategy and planning; for the integration of ICT across all spheres of the school with a primary focus on education, ensuring exceptional technological utilisation, and leading and managing all ICT services.
- Enabling effective use of the integrated technology platform for staff, parents, and students.
- Promoting and aligning the ICT vision with the school vision and best practices to support improved learning outcomes.
- Overseeing technical and hardware solutions to meet current and future needs in development, data management, and communications.
- Managing ICT budgets to ensure efficient financial planning and resource allocation.
Key responsibilities:
- Stakeholder Engagement and Communication: Maintain positive and supportive relationships with stakeholders and a sensitivity to the needs of the end-users. Ensure proactive communication on ICT-related issues and respond to complaints – effectively and timeously. Liaise regularly with School Executive/s on strategic initiatives.
- Leadership and team development: Provide leadership to IT staff, fostering a culture of excellence. Invest in staff development for succession planning and business continuity. Handle HR management, performance reviews, and staff well-being.
- Policy and Strategy Development: Lead the development of new IT policies, projects, and processes, with a focus on academic ICT. Develop, plan, and implement the IT strategy for academic and operational infrastructure. Ensure delivery on IT strategic initiatives and review policies annually.
- Standards and Safeguarding: Monitor and implement common IT standards, policies, and practices. Ensure safeguarding and data protection policies are in place.
- Procurement and Budget Management: Develop and manage procurement procedures. Deliver best value procurement for hardware, software, and services. Monitor and manage the IT budget.
- Technical Oversight: Ensure a high-quality network infrastructure and effective cloud services integration. Oversee the use of school-provided and pupil-owned devices.
- Work closely with respective pillar heads to assist with the effective implementation of ICT.
- Interpersonal and Communication Skills: Excellent interpersonal, communication, presentation, and team-building skills.
- Technical Skills: Proficiency in Excel, MS Word, PowerPoint, data management, systems and software integration, and utilising Bishops’ integrated technology platform.
- Financial and Budget Management: Strong numeracy skills, understanding of financial management, budgeting skills, and experience.
- Analytical and Problem-Solving Abilities: Strong reasoning, analytical skills, and effective problem-solving capabilities.
- Operational and Strategic Skills: Effective time management, strategic thinking, operational management, and decision-making skills.
- Leadership and Development: Coaching, mentoring, conflict resolution, and initiative in supporting the school’s core business.
- Attention to Detail: Excellent attention to detail and customer service orientation.
- Knowledge and Interest: Understanding of educational infrastructure and international IT developments in education.
Experience and skills required:
- Experience in teaching and/or a deep understanding of the needs of educators in a school environment.
- Qualifications or experience in ICT, business analytics, computer science or data analysis and relevant coding.
- At least 5 years’ leadership experience as a senior manager in an independent (or similar) school/education environment and of senior management experience in building a customer-focused team.
- Facilitation and training skills, ability to work under pressure, calm and measured approach, respectful style, self-starter, and understanding of IT’s role in supporting the school’s core business.
