Job description
Role Purpose

The Head of IT is a management role responsible for owning and evolving the group-wide IT landscape. This includes refining and executing established strategies in infrastructure, systems, cybersecurity, data, and innovation. The role ensures continued alignment with the organisation’s strategic objectives, enabling operational resilience, digital transformation, and scalable technology platforms.

Key Responsibilities
Strategic Leadership

Refine, develop, and execute IT, AI, cybersecurity, and data strategies in alignment with business goals.
Ensure confidence and stability in the organisation’s IT environment.
Advise EXCO on emerging technology trends, innovation opportunities, and risk mitigation.
Advance digital transformation initiatives and support scalable growth across all operations.
Maintain and enhance governance structures for IT decision-making and project oversight.

Operational Oversight

Lead IT support operations, infrastructure management, software licensing, asset lifecycle, and procurement.
Oversee first-line application support (SWIFT, SAGE, iMali Yam, OPUS, etc.).
Ensure effective onboarding/offboarding and management of end-user support and tickets.

Infrastructure and Cybersecurity

Maintain secure, high-performing infrastructure across head office and multiple retail sites.
Lead management of networks, servers, cloud platforms, and site-level technologies (e.g. CCTV, biometric systems).
Enforce cybersecurity frameworks and ensure ongoing compliance (e.g. POPIA).

Data and Reporting

Drive continued development of centralised reporting, semantic layers, and BI dashboards.
Ensure data integrity, validation processes, and high-quality reporting across business functions.
Deliver actionable insights for finance, operations, and EXCO.

Team Leadership

Manage and develop a cross-functional IT team including analysts, administrators, technicians, and project leads.
Lead recruitment, coaching, and performance development.
Build a culture of accountability, agility, and innovation.

Vendor and Budget Management

Oversee IT vendors and preferred service providers nationally.
Lead annual budgeting, forecasting, and continuous cost optimisation.

Key Relationships

Reports to EXCO, with regular strategic reporting.
Collaborates closely with senior leadership across all business units and operational areas.
Plays a central role in connecting technology initiatives to every function of the business.

Role Requirements

Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Computer Science, or related field.
Minimum 8–10 years of total IT experience, with at least 5 years in a senior IT leadership role.
Strong background in managing multi-site environments, systems integration, and vendor partnerships.
Strong proficiency in Azure, SQL Server, Microsoft 365, Power BI, and automation platforms.
Deep understanding of infrastructure, cybersecurity, data governance, and enterprise systems.
Experience with tools such as SWIFT, SAGE, Smartsheet, QContact, Norm, and Splynx.
Excellent leadership, problem-solving, and communication skills.
