Job description

Job Responsibilities
  • Manage the operations and maintenance of the Gouda Wind Facility ensuring the requirements of the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Agreement with the owner and the Services Agreement with the manufacturer of the turbine are met.
  • Organization, supervision and monitoring of the operations and maintenance activities of the Wind Facility to optimize plant availability for the owner and to ensure that the warranties by the manufacturer remain in place.
  • Management of human resources in order to obtain, the optimum wind facility performance, as well as the maximum wind turbine availability and efficiency, while fulfilling the legal regulations and the Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
  • Responsible for the control and management of spare parts, tools (supervising calibration), used consumables and defective materials to ensure optimum plant availability.
  • Ensuring that the terms of the warranties contract is adhered to and that the service provider is delivering as required in terms of the contract.
  • Ensure the Company’s quality, health and safety and environmental policies, procedures and processes are followed at all times and ensuring the health and safety of the persons, equipment and infrastructures associated with the wind farm. Drafting, reviewing and updating of Company policies associated with the Company operations as and when required.
  • Drive continuous quality improvement initiatives at the plant to improve efficiency and effectiveness of machinery and equipment.
  • Ensuring accurate and timely reporting to the stakeholders as required by the Operations and Maintenance (O&M) Contracts.
  • Ensure that all obligations in terms of the contract with the client are met (contracts management).
  • Section 16(2) appointment in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993, responsible for the health and safety at the Gouda Wind Facility.
  • GMR 2(1) appointment - General Machinery Regulation, Competent Person in terms of the Occupational Health and Safety Act, 1993.
Quality, Health and Safety and Environment
  • Communicate Acciona policies and procedures to all employees.
  • Ensure employees are adequately trained for the tasks to be performed and ensure the availability of the necessary equipment and tools to perform such tasks, so that the safety and health can be ensured for the people involved in such activity.
  • Ensure health and safety of the persons, equipment and infrastructures associated with the wind farm.
  • Ensure the management and collection of all waste generated in the wind farm according to the waste management policy and the local laws.
  • Manage access control to the wind farm.
  • Prevent and monitor serious or imminent risks, stop the activity in a safe way and report to the General Manager, owner and the DOE.
  • Participate in the initial and periodical risk assessment as well as in the preventive activity planning.
  • Promote the environmental management and apply all related standards and laws.
  • Report safety indexes regarding severity and frequency indexes.
  • Report any accident or incident suffered by employees or subcontracted personnel as soon as the event is known.
  • Ensure the correct use of the safety equipment and resources.
Wind Farm Maintenance and Management
  • Analyse the company performance and suggest, develop and implement improvement in facilities, tools, procedures and organisation advisable for improving the service development, regarding both actions and information.
  • Arrange and facilitate technical and safety meetings.
  • Arrange meetings with the technical support departments regarding technical problems experienced.
  • Arrange weekly meetings with the manufacturer (OEM) of the wind turbines for technical issues and warranty materials.
  • Attend to visitors to the plant as and when required.
  • Conduct daily morning meetings and safety meetings.
  • Cooperate in preparing the necessary documents for the efficient performance of the Wind Farm, including procedures for carrying out preventive or corrective tasks, standards, maintenance instructions, document updates, alarm monitoring, etc.
  • Coordinate training and training requests for the employees.
  • Coordinate with the General Manager, the Control Centre and the personnel on standby when the wind conditions are extreme and may affect the facilities’ normal operation.
  • Draft, distribute and communicate Procedures to the employees.
  • Distribute and explain quality, safety, technical documentation to employees.
  • Draft the preventive maintenance plan timeously and send it to Management and Support department.
  • Ensure that procedures approved by the Company are adhered to and that no other procedures are being performed.
  • Manage and control spare parts, tools (supervising calibration), consumables and defective materials, providing the property with the necessary warehouse control documents regarding the works performed and/or materials, components and equipment used.
  • Manage the human resources (including guard duties planning) assigned to such works, to obtain, at any moment, the optimum wind farm performance, as well as the maximum wind turbine availability and efficiency, fulfilling the regulations and the Safety, Quality and Environmental standards.
  • Monitor Retrofits and Design Improvement activities.
  • Monitor, control and coordinate the wind farm subcontractors and suppliers.
  • Organise, supervise and monitor the maintenance activities, both preventive and corrective.
  • Participate in any minor projects, design improvements, etc. to be performed on the wind farm.
  • Perform major corrective maintenance activities.
  • Perform preventive maintenance and inspections of the facility.
  • Prepare monthly reports to the owner and OEM.
  • Provide and validate the accuracy of information, by means of the CMMS tools (databases, information technologies, etc.).
  • Provide solutions to technical and other problems that may arise in the daily wind farm operation.
  • Report serious incidents send the corresponding incident communication and monitor every incident as it occurs on the wind farm whatever the source/root cause may be. Perform incident investigation and reporting of each incident. Communicate the report accordingly.
  • Review work instructions in the document library for updates to be applied by the maintenance technicians.
  • Verify and supervise subcontractor staff assigned to the wind farm are sufficiently trained for the tasks to be performed and that they adhere to all site requirements.
  • Verify and approve the Work Orders (WOs) completed by technicians on the system.
  • Validate and correct Downtime on the Daily Operation Report (RDO).
Required Skills And Competencies
  • Degree in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering.
  • Government Certificate of Competency (GCC).
  • 5 years experience in the following areas: electrical installations, maintenance management, wind energy.
  • 3 years management experience (at least managed a team of 10 people).
  • Ability to write, prepare and present eloquent technical reports.
  • Valid code 08 driver’s license.
  • Excellent verbal and communication skills in English.
  • Excellent organization and planning skills.
  • Ability to trouble shoot.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills.
  • Must be deadline driven and able to deal with competing demands.
