Job summary

A national banknote producer is looking for a dedicated Sustainability Officer in Gauteng. Job description
Purpose:

The Sustainability Officer is responsible to assist in maintaining a comprehensive sustainability programme to reduce SABN’s Carbon Footprint; the implementation of the sustainability strategy, data analytics, reporting and the communication of sustainability trends within the SABN in order to drive continuous improvement.

Main Responsibilities (not limited to):
  • Minimise the SABN's environmental impact by supporting initiatives to reduce energy and water consumption, manage waste, and promote the use of renewable resources.
  • Analyse data and prepare sustainability reports, detailing the SABN's performance in areas such as greenhouse gas emissions, water usage, and waste management.
  • Collect and report data/performance metrics on sustainability initiatives and projects.
  • Stay abreast of, research, monitor and report on emerging trends, programmes and issues to make recommendations to the SABN.
  • Implement, facilitate and maintain the SABN internal sustainability training programme.
  • Collaborate with and build professional relationships with external stakeholders and partners.
  • Identify, promote and pursue sustainable organisational practices and opportunities to improve sustainability across the SABN.
  • Provide support to the sustainability committee.
  • Coordinate sustainability drives/initiatives within the portfolio including budget and resource allocation.
  • Implement the SABN sustainability policies and procedures.
  • Provide input into SABN-wide sustainability communications and communications channels/platforms.
The Preferred Candidate is likely to have:
  • Diploma or Degree in technical or business discipline; sustainability, environmental science or related field.
  • ESG Certification will be an added advantage
  • Minimum 1 year demonstrated sustainability, environmental management experience/related to sustainability
  • Experience working with environmental management systems or ISO based management systems.
  • Work experience in a manufacturing environment is preferable
Knowledge and Skills:
  • Knowledge of sustainability dimensions (e.g. environment, trends, best practices, issues etc.) and technology.
  • Understanding of monitoring, measurement and reporting of sustainability targets.
  • Understanding of Project Management.
  • Well-developed knowledge of ISO14001.
  • Well-developed knowledge of local and international Sustainability/ Climate Legislation.
  • Well-developed verbal and written communication skills.
  • Presentation and facilitation skills.
  • Well-developed data analysis, data interpretation and Report Writing skills.
  • Ability to conduct research.
  • Strong analytical skills.
  • Ability to present information to various/diverse audiences.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
