Requirements
- NQF 6 National Diploma Health and Safety Management.
- Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
- Clear security screening record.
- Medically fit to work in the specific business area.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience at Superintendent Health & Safety.
Advantageous Qualifications
- Mine Managers Certificate or Engineering GCC/ Health & Safety Lead Auditor certification
Key Responsibilities
- Implementing and executing strategic Health and Safety plans, goals and targets by ensuring the Unit’s planning is aligned with the operational plans, goals and targets and that such goals are always achieved for the unit.
- Structuring the Health and Safety Unit to provide the capacity and capability to achieve the strategic requirements by ensuring that the structure is effective, efficient and competent, no wastage of resources, powerful individuals and synergies within the Operation.
- Scanning the Health and Safety environment internally and externally for opportunities, threats and risks and providing solutions in accordance with the analysis and outcomes through usage of the strategic framework.
- Providing highly recognized Health and Safety expertise to high level decision-makers in the form of reports, analyses, recommendations, presentations in support of the long-term strategic direction and positioning of the Operation.
- Compiling and managing the bi-annual budget by identifying future needs related to historical and current trends and assumptions.
- Implementing, certifying and maintaining Health and Safety Systems (ISO 14001) by formulating and implementing policies, standards and procedures in accordance to international best practice and legal requirements, ensuring that Management systems are subject to regular audits and management reviews, recording non-conformance and implementing corrective action.
- Addressing the social aspects of the Health and Safety portfolio by ensuring that perceptions of the company are managed within realistic parameters, trust between stakeholders and representatives of the company exists, implementing measures to alleviate long term impacts.
- Aligning the Operation’s Health and Safety activities with legal and other statutory requirements by ensuring that the Operation is compliant with national legal and other requirements, new developments are interpreted and strategies devised to ensure compliance without significant fiscal impacts on the business, status of legal compliance is audited
- Managing Health and Safety projects effectively by identifying, defining and planning with due regard to inputs from interested and affected parties, obtaining necessary regulatory approval, scoping projects and procuring finance and services.
- Ensuring that project management plans are planned and implemented in accordance with the requirements of ISO 14001.
