Manager, Psychological & Counselling Services
The position is responsible for the leadership, coordination, and administration of the psychological and counseling services at UTP. The position comes with supervisory responsibilities of a team of 5 members, assisting in enabling overall Campus Wellness. This position will lead the team in providing client-centered services that focus on campus community mental health, psychological wellness, and safety through inclusive, integrative, non-racist, non-oppressive, and trauma-informed approaches. A strong focus on employee safety is a must.
This position is responsible for effectively managing staff, policies, processes, and programs involved in the provision of psychological and counselling services, adhering to the highest standards of behavior with all relevant stakeholders of UTP, and in a manner consistent with the ethics and responsibilities of the profession.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
The position shall create and maintain transformative, current, and future-ready services by:
- Cultivating strong working relationships and partnerships with the right partners within and off campus which will contribute to a comprehensive wellness strategy for the campus community.
- Ensuring programs offered to students contribute to the student experience and the wellness of the campus community according to UTP Student Experience Framework.
- Developing strategies to achieve the visioned Campus Wellness.
- Facilitating the exchange of ideas, knowledge, and best practices within and out of campus.
Setting targets and ensuring high-quality service delivery for all students with or without mental health concerns, from early intervention to complex and acute.
Team Management and Coaching
The position shall provide leadership in the development of the team and facilitation of overall mental health service delivery on campus by:
- Meeting with team members for clinical consultation, case file reviews, and professional growth & development on a periodic basis.
- Providing a supportive environment that encourages productivity, staff success, and efficient and healthy workload management.
- Engaging in effective and equitable recruitment selection procedures and standards when required.
- Overseeing the professional training and development of team members.
- Leading with a collaborative, relationship-based, growth mindset.
- Developing staff performance outcomes together with them, facilitating annual performance appraisals, and addressing performance management needs of staff.
Planning and managing team training and leave management, ensuring sufficient resources are always available to provide the services.
The position shall ensure the highest standards of governance are practiced in delivering the services by:
- Conducting routine clinical file audits to ensure adherence to ethical and standard practice guidelines.
- Reviewing the range of counselling techniques and intervention plans used when required.
Reviewing processes to ensure client data confidentiality is upheld.
Coordination of Health Management & Assessment Programmes
The position is responsible for:
- Coordination of Assessment, Intake, and Services Access: Maintaining thorough knowledge and expertise in best evidence-based assessment and intake practices, ensuring these practices are well designed, implemented, and evaluated to fit the needs of the campus community. Managing procedures related to new clients entering with mental health concerns, as well as any waiting list related to intake.
- Coordination of High-Risk Clients: Maintaining thorough knowledge and expertise on mental health case management of high-risk clients and cross-discipline collaboration within and off campus including hospitals, community mental health agencies and institutions, and relevant service providers to ensure services for students are adequately available and in place at all times.
- Coordination of Mental Health Case Management: Maintaining thorough knowledge and expertise in serious and persistent mental illnesses, mental health case management, and the relevant mental health and counselling acts.
Coordinating the unit’s operation: Planning and managing the budget and operations of the unit to ensure smooth service delivery.
REQUIREMENTS
- Recognised Bachelor's or Master's degree in relevant field
- Strong managerial skill and clinical case management knowledge
- More than 5 years of experience in relevant field
- Professional qualification and advanced degree would be an added advantage
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills
- Strong interpersonal skills
- Strong analytical abilities
