Job summary
A national economic institution in Kuala Lumpur seeks an Associate Economist/Economist to advance thought leadership in labour market policies. The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor's degree in Economics and 2-3 years of experience in the financial sector, particularly in labour policy. Responsibilities include conducting in-depth research, providing technical support to the government, and preparing relevant reports and publications. The position is full-time with a focus on policy development and strategic advocacy.
Qualifications
- Master's in Economics and Econometrics is an advantage.
- Preferably 2 – 3 years working experience in Economics and Financial Sector.
- Experience in labour policy work would be an advantage.
Responsibilities
- Conduct in-depth research on labour market issues and structural implications.
- Develop policy recommendations for the government.
- Provide technical support on economic matters relating to labour market.
- Conduct advocacy for labour market policies based on analysis and research.
- Prepare drafts for publications, reports, and presentations.
- Conduct necessary administrative tasks for smooth department operations.
Skills
Education
Conduct research and propose suitable policies on labour market to advance the Bank’s thought leadership and policy advocacy in the national labour market priorities.
- To undertake in-depth research on prevailing and emerging labour market issues, initiatives and its structural implications on the macroeconomy.
- To develop suitable policy recommendations to the government, through internal research and via collaboration with both internal and external stakeholders.
- To provide technical support to the Government on economic matters relating to labour market through participation in inter-agency meetings, where necessary.
- To conduct strategic advocacy to the Government on labour market policies by leveraging on analysis and research undertaken by the Bank.
- To prepare drafts for the Bank’s publications and reports, speeches, questions and answers for the media, interviews, parliamentary questions, presentation slides and briefs for meetings.
- To conduct administrative tasks, where necessary, to ensure business continuity and smooth running of the department.
Academic Qualifications:
First Degree in Economics (preferred), Econometrics, Mathematics, Accounting and Finance or related field. Master's in Economics and Econometrics is an advantage
Experience:
Preferably 2 – 3 years working experience in Economics and Financial Sector. Experience in labour policy work would be an advantage.
