We are hiring a Lead Golang Software Engineer at any seniority level, who strives for the highest engineering quality, seeks improvements, continuously develops their skills, and applies them at work. This is an exciting opportunity to work with many popular software systems, integration technologies, and open‑source solutions.

The Commercial Systems unit consists of seven engineering teams that collaborate closely with other engineering and business teams. Services designed, developed, and operated by the Commercial Systems unit are at the heart of Canonical’s business, and Golang plays an integral role.

• Billing team – designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that turns metrics into billable amounts and enables customers to see their current spend with Canonical at any time. The service integrates with other engineering, business, and payment systems.
• Contracts team – designs, develops, and operates a Golang service that becomes the single source of truth for all contracts with all customers, providing standardized CPQ capability and storing signed contracts in a structured format.
• Livepatch team – designs and develops a service for the delivery of Linux kernel patches to shrink the exploit window for critical and high‑severity vulnerabilities, while the system runs.
• Ubuntu Pro backend team – designs and develops backend services for the delivery of Ubuntu Pro, the most comprehensive subscription for open‑source software security.

This role will be based remotely in the EMEA region (all teams except for Ubuntu Pro) or the AMER region (Ubuntu Pro).

• Develop engineering solutions leveraging Golang
• Lead technical designs, code reviews, and implementation
• Deploy and operate services developed by the team

• Exceptional academic track record from both high school and university
• Undergraduate degree in a technical subject or a compelling narrative about an alternative chosen path
• Track record of going above and beyond expectations to achieve outstanding results
• Experience with software development in Golang
• Professional written and spoken English with excellent presentation skills
• Result‑oriented with a personal drive to meet commitments
• Ability to travel internationally twice a year, for company events up to two weeks long

• Performance engineering and security experience
• Experience with accounting, sales, sales operations, or other business roles
