IT Support Specialist

Location: Dudley

Salary: £30,000 - £35,000 per annum

Hours: Monday-Friday, 8:30am - 5:00pm

About the Role

We are seeking an experienced and proactive IT Support Specialist to oversee IT systems, assets, and infrastructure. You will play a key role in maintaining smooth day-to-day operations, delivering system improvements, implementing upgrades, and ensuring strong cyber security across the business.

Working closely with teams across the organisation, you will help drive efficiency, support business growth, and maintain the high standards required by our defence-sector customers. This is a hands‑on role with real impact from day one.

Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain essential IT operations including operating systems, security tools, applications, servers, email systems, end‑user devices, and software.
  • Manage business‑critical IT tasks and implement system upgrades and improvements.
  • Enhance business processes and employee productivity through smart IT solutions.
  • Research and evaluate new hardware, software, and emerging technologies.
  • Act as subject‑matter expert for Windows, iOS, and widely used applications (Microsoft, Adobe, Google Workspace).
  • Maintain knowledge of cyber security guidelines, standards, and controls.
  • Install, configure and support workstation hardware, software, printers, and telephony.
  • Ensure the 365/SharePoint environment remains secure and evolves with business needs.
  • Administer time and attendance systems and other core business applications.
  • Support mobile device management and associated security.
  • Contribute to IT projects including documentation, testing, implementation, and user training.
  • Manage application and software updates to maintain security compliance.
  • Assist with supporting the company's Infor ERP solution.
  • Support Cyber Security Essentials Plus accreditation and ongoing cyber security activities.
  • Lead employee cyber security awareness and phishing prevention training.
  • Perform cyber security checks and support investigations where required.
  • Understand company policies to advise on new processes and improvements.
  • Maintain accurate asset database records.
Required Skills & Experience
  • Minimum 5 years' experience in an IT support or infrastructure role.
  • Strong understanding of operating systems, equipment, and technologies.
  • Ability to work independently and manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of sensitive company information.
  • Strong problem‑solving abilities with high attention to detail.
  • Experience liaising with third‑party providers and vendors.
  • Logical thinker with strong critical analysis skills.
  • Ability to prioritise workload effectively.
  • Eligibility to obtain BPSS and SC clearance.
