The Assistant Headteacher will play a key leadership role within our school, supporting the Headteacher in strategic management and leading operational and educational responsibilities. You will focus on ensuring the best outcomes for students by creating a supportive, inclusive environment that fosters growth and independence. The role involves up to 40% teaching to support understanding of pupils' needs and team support, working closely with staff, parents, external agencies, and stakeholders to promote excellence and continuous improvement.

• Support the Headteacher in daily school leadership and management.
• Lead and support staff development, fostering continuous improvement.
• Collaborate with the Senior Leadership Team to develop and implement the school’s strategic vision aligned with the needs of students with additional learning needs.
• Assist in developing and monitoring policies and procedures to ensure compliance with standards and best practices.
• Lead initiatives to enhance education and care quality, consistent with the school’s ethos and objectives.

• Support the development and implementation of a tailored curriculum for children with PMLD.
• Monitor and evaluate teaching and learning practices to maintain high standards.
• Lead and support teachers in implementing individualized educational plans (IEPs) to ensure accessible, meaningful, and engaging learning.
• Collaborate with external professionals to support holistic student development.

• Promote student welfare and safeguarding, ensuring a safe, therapeutic, and supportive environment.
• Advocate for pupils’ needs and work creatively to support them.
• Manage student behavior effectively, modeling positive support and fostering community.

• Support recruitment, induction, and ongoing staff development.
• Provide mentorship and coaching to develop best practices in working with children with additional needs.
• Implement regular feedback and performance management systems for all staff, including teaching assistants.

• Build strong relationships with parents and carers, involving them in their child’s learning and well-being.
• Communicate effectively with external agencies and stakeholders to support student development.
• Represent the school at meetings, conferences, and events as needed.

• Assist in setting and reviewing the school improvement plan with clear, measurable goals.
• Contribute to self-evaluation and improvement initiatives to enhance school effectiveness.
• Use data to monitor student progress and identify development areas, supporting all students to make optimal progress.

• Degree-level education qualification or higher.
• GCSEs in Maths and English (grades A-C) or equivalent.
• Experience teaching in a PMLD environment.
• Experience leading projects or school improvement initiatives.
• Experience working within multidisciplinary teams and with external stakeholders.
• Effective ICT skills for managing learning.
• Knowledge of relevant policies, legislation, and development frameworks (Routes for Learning, Foundation Phase, ALN pedagogy).
