Our client is seeking an intermediate Finance Professional to manage a capital portfolio for the company's Technology group and incorporate this function into their Integrated Planning framework.
The Financial Planning Analyst supports maintaining the capital portfolio and integrating it into the planning framework, focusing on identifying and shaping needs for capital IT investments.
A mix of technical and interpersonal skills is essential to manage a high-quality portfolio among various stakeholders. A combination of IT and finance expertise is required to interpret uncertain IT needs into practical plans and oversee a dynamic investment workflow.
Responsibilities:
- Collaborate within the Portfolio Management team, Technology Planning & Performance, on financial planning and analysis tasks.
- Apply a business-oriented approach to support capital investment portfolio management, planning, business case assessments, benefits realization, and compliance activities.
- Work closely with Technology managers, planners, and staff to identify, capture, and refine changing demands for capital projects, and coordinate with Finance Support for consolidated forecasts.
- Assist in managing the capital portfolio and historical records for ongoing budget management, reporting, and trend analysis.
- Participate in monthly capital management meetings to review budget performance, initiate projects, and process project requests.
- Support multi-horizon capital planning to ensure alignment with the overall portfolio.
- Engage with asset owners and advisors on project complexity, risk, asset health, costs, and benefits analysis.
- Recommend process and tool improvements for better portfolio optimization.
- Provide training to IT advisors and asset owners on capital processes.
Required Experience:
- Experience in financial management, IT, or business management within large organizations or professional services.
- Forecasting, budgeting, and performance management expertise.
- Financial planning and analysis skills.
- Experience in utilities or public service sectors is a plus.
Education and Skills:
- Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related fields.
- 5 to 8 years of relevant financial management experience or equivalent.
- Professional accounting designation such as CPA.
- Strong financial skills, including capital planning, business case development, and financial modeling.
- Proficiency in managing datasets, workflows, and tools supporting investment decisions.
- Excellent skills in Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint.
- Customer-focused with a results-oriented approach.
- Strong interpersonal skills, including relationship building and cross-disciplinary collaboration.
- Effective communication skills, both written and verbal, including presentation and facilitation abilities.
This is a 1-year initial contract, with potential extension based on workload and performance.
The work arrangement is hybrid, with 2 days per week in the downtown Vancouver office.
