Being part of Air Canada means joining an iconic Canadian brand, recently recognized as the best airline in North America. Let your career take flight by becoming part of a diverse and forward‑thinking team that’s shaping the future of passenger aviation through digital innovation.

We’re seeking a creative and detail‑oriented Front‑End Web Developer to help bring design concepts and product visions to life. In this role, you’ll play a key part in delivering seamless, high‑performance, and user‑centric applications that define how customers interact with our digital platforms.

You thrive in collaborative environments, working closely with designers, back‑end developers, and cross‑functional teams to build consistent, accessible, and inclusive experiences. With a passion for clean code, performance optimization, and continuous improvement, you bring both technical expertise and creative problem‑solving to every project.

These are exciting times for IT at Air Canada, with many major projects underway that will transform the IT landscape. Air Canada is also massively investing in new technologies that will facilitate its digital transformation. This is a unique opportunity to learn state‑of‑the‑art technologies at an industry leader, as well as to contribute to the creation of the Air Canada of tomorrow.

Responsibilities
  • Translate design mockups into responsive, accessible, and high‑performance user interfaces for both web and mobile platforms.
  • Write clean, scalable, and modular code using modern JavaScript frameworks (e.g., React, React Native, Angular) and native mobile technologies where applicable.
  • Build reusable UI components and contribute to a shared design system that ensures consistency across applications.
  • Optimize front‑end performance through techniques such as lazy loading, code splitting, caching, and minimizing render times.
  • Collaborate with back‑end developers to integrate APIs, optimize data flow, and ensure seamless communication between front‑end and back‑end systems.
  • Develop comprehensive unit, integration, and end‑to‑end tests to ensure code reliability and maintainability.
  • Implement accessibility standards (WCAG 2.1, Section 508) to ensure inclusive user experiences.
  • Stay current with emerging technologies, frameworks, and best practices in front‑end and mobile development.
  • Leverage AI‑assisted development tools to streamline workflows and encourage adoption across the team.
  • Participate in Agile ceremonies (sprint planning, stand‑ups, retrospectives) and contribute to continuous improvement of team processes.
  • Collaborate with cross‑functional teams (designers, product managers, QA, DevOps) to align goals, timelines, and deliverables.
  • Author design documents, and validation plans to support scalable development.
Qualifications
  • University degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
  • 3–5 years of experience in front‑end development for web and/or mobile platforms.
  • Strong proficiency in HTML5, CSS3, JavaScript (ES6+), and responsive design principles.
  • Experience with React and/or Angular for web development.
  • Experience with React Native or native mobile development (iOS/Android) is highly desirable.
  • Deep understanding of object‑oriented and functional programming in JavaScript.
  • Familiarity with consuming RESTful APIs and handling JSON data.
  • Knowledge of accessibility standards and inclusive design practices.
  • Experience with performance tuning and debugging tools for UI optimization.
  • Proficiency with version control systems (e.g., Git) and Agile development methodologies.
  • Strong problem‑solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently or in a team.
  • Demonstrate punctuality and dependability to support overall team success in a fast‑paced environment.
Assets
  • Experience with content management systems (e.g., Adobe Experience Manager).
  • Familiarity with mobile app architectures (e.g., Redux, MobX).
  • Exposure to CI/CD pipelines and DevOps collaboration.
  • Passion for innovation and continuous learning.
  • Experience in the airline or travel industry.
