Position Summary:
The Senior Human Resources Consultant will provide strategic and operational HR support to the Sagkeeng Education Authority (SEA), ensuring compliance with employment legislation, policies, and best practices. This role requires a proactive approach to HR management, balancing advisory responsibilities with hands-on execution of HR functions. The Senior HR Consultant will act as a trusted resource for managers and employees, providing guidance on HR policies, employee relations, and organizational development initiatives.
Reports To: HR Director (Sagkeeng First Nation)
Key Responsibilities:
Support the development and implementation of HR initiatives, policies, and systems to align with organizational goals and legal requirements.
Provide expert advice to managers and employees of SEA on HR policies, employment legislation, and workplace best practices.
Assist in workforce planning, including job description development, recruitment, and selection processes.
Manage the hiring process for the SEA, including job postings, interview coordination, candidate evaluation, reference checks, and preparing employment offers and contracts.
Oversee onboarding and orientation programs to ensure a smooth transition for new employees.
Conduct workplace investigations and support managers in handling employee relations matters, including conflict resolution, performance management, and disciplinary processes.
Advise management on provincial employment standards and other relevant legislation, ensuring legal compliance. Provide insight into federal employment legislation as needed.
Maintain employee records and ensure compliance with confidentiality and data protection policies.
Support performance management processes, including coaching managers on best practices for employee development.
Monitor and address attendance management and leave requests, ensuring policy consistency.
Lead HR policy updates and implementation in collaboration with the HR Director.
Support the implementation and maintenance of an HRIS system.
Provide training and development opportunities for staff and management on HR-related topics.
Conduct exit interviews and analyze trends to inform retention strategies.
