About the Role
- Display proficiency in at least one of the following categories, above-average skills in two more, and basic skills in the remaining categories: air conditioning, refrigeration, electrical, mechanical, plumbing, life safety systems, kitchen equipment, electronics, carpentry, or building management systems.
- Display solid knowledge and skill in the safe use of hand and power tools and other materials required for repair and maintenance tasks.
- Basic ability to repair or replace PVC copper pipes, including soldering.
- Troubleshoot and perform basic repairs on equipment such as pumps, motors, plumbing, electrical devices, and guestroom items.
- Program TVs and perform general housekeeping and engineering duties.
- Assist team members with painting, drywall, wood trim repair, light bulb and A/C filter replacement, ensuring work areas are clean.
- Perform Engineer on Duty responsibilities, including readings and rounds.
Prevention and Safety
- Follow safety/security policies and procedures.
- Promote a safe environment and complete safety training.
- Handle chemicals and hazardous materials following proper procedures.
- Use PPE and employ correct lifting procedures.
- Identify and report unsafe conditions.
- Maintain proficiency in Fire Alarm/Safety systems and emergency power systems.
- Follow emergency procedures to preserve the building and systems.
- Use Lockout/Tagout systems before maintenance.
Repair and Maintain
- Carry necessary equipment to perform work.
- Respond promptly to guest repair requests.
- Inspect and repair mechanical, HVAC, electrical, and plumbing systems.
- Maintain tools and equipment.
- Operate shut-off valves and organize maintenance areas.
- Perform preventive maintenance.
Maintain Building and Property
- Keep engineering areas clean.
- Monitor energy and utility usage, seeking conservation opportunities.
Maintain Records and Logs
- Use management systems for maintenance records and inspections.
- Communicate daily activities and issues to other shifts.
- Manage inventory of parts and supplies.
- Log and interpret readings from meters and gauges.
Guest Relations
- Address guest needs professionally and promptly.
- Greet guests warmly and respond to questions and requests.
- Handle complaints effectively and escalate when necessary.
- Maintain a professional appearance and confidentiality.
Qualifications
- Experience in general maintenance, mechanical systems, and painting.
- At least 2 years of luxury hotel engineering/maintenance experience.
- Trades license/education is an asset.
- Flexibility to work weekends and holidays.
- Legal ability to work in Canada.
- Strong communication skills and customer service orientation.
