Working arrangement: Hybrid – 2 days in the office per week, flexible for the right candidate.
Vetting level: Management Vetting (MV & SC) minimum

Work within the Police Governance & Compliance Department as a Data Protection Officer for approximately 3 months.

• Final sign‑off of disclosures made on behalf of the Chief Constable.
• Serve as the point of contact for the Information Commissioner’s Office.
• Manage any S55 Data Breaches and facilitate notifications to the ICO where necessary.
• Maintain a log of all breaches, including rationale for reporting, review of practices, and liaise with internal departments (Professional Standards and the Chief Officer Group) to mitigate risks.
• Interpret decisions made by the ICO.
• Provide strategic advice, assistance, guidance and compliance by interpreting legislation to ensure all disclosure or compliance aspects are regarded at all levels within Constabulary policies, procedures, guidance and projects.
• Advise project managers on the implementation of Privacy Impact Assessments and keep a log of all advice given.
• Manage the Information Disclosure Team, ensuring staff performance reviews, annual and interim meetings, objective setting and actioning; develop an effective appeal mechanism under the Freedom of Information Act 2000.
• Implement and continue use of a Data Protection and Freedom of Information training package suitable for all levels of personnel.
• Ensure all personnel stay updated with changes to legislation.

• Data Protection Qualified (Part 2 and Part 3). Part 3 highly desirable.
• Proven experience in data protection, ideally in the public sector and particularly in policing.
• Substantial FOI experience, particularly around decision making.
• Thorough knowledge of formal disclosure to statutory bodies and individuals, including FOI, EIR, DP SAR, DP Section 35(2) – Civil legal proceedings, CLPD and ‘pull’ requests, Insurance MoUs, CAFCASS, CICA.
• Experience working in a confidential environment with demonstrated integrity.
• Attention to detail.
• Strong verbal and written communication skills (presentation at meetings and report writing required).
• Previous experience in policing.
