Your Opportunity:

Are you an experienced Speech Language Pathologist looking to evolve cancer care services while applying and developing your clinical skills in a supportive environment? The Grande Prairie Regional Hospital boasts a state-of-the-art cancer care centre (GPCC) and is the first North Zone hospital to provide radiation therapy. If you are looking for the opportunity to shape service delivery, then this role is for you. Cancer Care Alberta (CCA) services are provided by a team of health care professionals dedicated to enhancing the quality of life of those affected by cancer by providing support and expert care from the time of cancer diagnosis through treatment and beyond by leaders in cancer diagnosis, treatment, survivorship and palliative care. The Rehabilitation Oncology team of OT, PT, SLP and TA collaborate with each other and with other health care professionals to develop and offer services, programming and patient education. The team is working to build local capacity for effective patient care with this permanent 0.4 FTE SLP II to join the team. Reporting to Supportive Care Manager North, the SLP is responsible for the assessment and treatment of patients referred to the service as well as the development, implementation and evaluation of treatment programs according to professional practice standards, program development, evaluation, student supervision and staff education. Description:

As a Speech Language Pathologist, you will provide clinical professional practice both independently and as a part of a collaborative team, which may include external partners. You will be responsible for providing prevention, health promotion, identification, assessment, intervention, and case management. You will participate in the planning, coordination and delivery of rehabilitation services in collaboration with patients/clients, families, healthcare professionals and other partners. Your leadership and interpersonal skills will aid you in supervising students and providing clinical guidance to other staff as appropriate. You will use your clinical expertise to inform ongoing quality improvement, service integration, and program development.

Required Qualifications:

Master's degree in Speech-Language Pathology. Active or eligible registration and practice permit with the Alberta College of Speech Language Pathologists and Audiologists (ACSLPA).

Additional Required Qualifications:

Active Heart and Stroke Foundation BLS certification. Minimum three (3) years within the last five (5) years in clinical experience in inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation setting. Experience in the past twelve (12) months with referral triage and caseload management. Five (5) years clinical experience in an inpatient or outpatient acute care or rehabilitation area. Two (2) years oncology and/or palliative experience. Ability to independently perform videofluroscopic swallow studies (VFSS) (e.g. modified barium swallow) and/or fiberoptic endoscopic evaluation of swallowing (FEES). MBSImP training. Experience working with Therapy Assistants. Experience in program development, evaluation and best practice implementation. Physically demanding position requires repetitive lifting, transferring of patients and/or equipment as well as prolonged sitting, keyboarding/computer and headset use.

Preferred Qualifications:

Demonstrated ability to work within a patient-centered, interdisciplinary team of health care professionals. Knowledge of Alberta Aids to Daily Living (AADL). Effective self-management and time management skills paired with initiative. Professional development in the last year related to rehabilitation oncology. Experience using virtual patient care (phone/Zoom/Telehealth). Intermediate to advanced computer skills: Netcare, Microsoft Office and EMR (EPIC/Connect Care).
