The University of Alberta Hospital (UAH) is one of Canada’s leading clinical, research and teaching hospitals, treating more than 700,000 patients annually. The UAH and Stollery Children’s Emergency Department is a busy tertiary care level I emergency department and is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. This large tertiary Trauma Centre provides opportunities in a broad base of emergency nursing from Pediatrics to Trauma Care. Licensed Practical Nurses within the Emergency department work in a state-of-the-art facility utilizing an electronic tracking system, assessing, planning, implementing, and evaluating care for emergency patients. Decisions are made in a collaborative multidisciplinary healthcare team environment. In this role, you may be required to work in all areas of Emergency at the discretion of the Unit Manager/Charge Nurse. Working with us is about making a difference. As a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN), you are part of an interprofessional healthcare team utilizing nursing processes, critical thinking, problem solving, and decision-making skills. You will be guided by your education, experience, demonstrated skill level, and AHS policies and procedures. Your role is pivotal in providing safe, quality, patient- and family-centered care, reflecting the shared vision and values of AHS.

Completion of an accredited practical nurse education program. Active or eligible for registration and practice permit with the College of Licensed Practical Nurses of Alberta (CLPNA). Current Basic Cardiac Life Support - Health Care Provider (BCLS-HCP).
Demonstrated excellent assessment, organizational, and patient care skills. Ability to communicate findings concisely and accurately. Strong interpersonal and problem-solving skills. Ability to identify learning needs and seek guidance when knowledge deficits occur. Current Basic Life Support (BLS - Heart and Stroke AED Level C REQUIRED) - Healthcare Provider Registration. The role requires extended periods of standing and walking, and the ability to assist in transporting, lifting, and positioning patients, as well as bending, lifting, pushing, and pulling equipment.
Minimum 1 year emergency nursing experience. 2 years applicable medical/surgical experience may be considered. Preference for recent nursing experience in a tertiary care Emergency Department and acute/critical care experience within the last two years.
