Please Note: The mode of delivery for this course will be face to face during the term.

Compensation

Effective September 1, 2024 - $7,471.08 per half course (195 hours nominally)
Effective September 1, 2024 - $14,942.17 per full course (390 hours nominally)
Please note: Instructors who are employed in a 2-hour/week lecture, or the equivalent of a 2-hour/week lecture, are responsible for the first hour of seminar/lab in each course.

Duties

Duties and responsibilities will be in accordance with Article 22.01 of the Collective Agreement. These include scheduled contact time with students and non-classroom time (preparation of lectures, student consultation, marking and grading and course administration, including grade appeals and cases of academic dishonesty). Successful candidate is expected to work closely with the Chair of Modern Languages, Literatures and Culture.

Qualifications

The qualifications for this position have changed since it was last posted.

1. Graduate Degree (PhD, PhD abd or MA) in an area of German studies with a record of sustained successful teaching of German at a University level. Native or near native fluency in English and German. Commitment to and competence in the use of Standard International German.
2. Teaching documentation: evidence of teaching competence; official student and peer evaluations; teaching dossier; references. Ability to work alone without immediate direct supervision. Ability to work within a team; active participation in curriculum development; responsible for designing all tests and exams; student assessment; prompt and accurate marking.
3. Commitment to the incorporation of web-based pedagogical techniques, materials and resources (including textbook instructional platform, etc.) in the teaching of the course, as required. Competence in the use of email, Brightspace, internet, common office software (e.g., Word, Excel) and multi-media equipment.
4. Commitment to responsible time management (e.g. course structuring, punctuality for lectures). Availability for individual consultation with students (office hours 1.5 hours per section per week required) and proctoring exams.
