The Manager of Maintenance Planning is responsible for the overall aircraft Line maintenance planning activities of 737NGs, 737MAX, Q400 and 787 to ensure they meet regulatory compliance.
Responsibilities:
Leadership - Planning Department
- Oversee the Line Maintenance Planning Team by providing guidance, coaching through barriers / challenges along with celebrating milestones / achievements.
- Execute strategic maintenance plans as outlined by senior management.
- Maintain compliance with policies and procedures related to WestJet, Technical Operations, and Maintenance Planning.
- Ensure regulatory compliance by adhering to WestJet’s Maintenance Schedule Approval for all aircraft types.
- Track Configuration Maintenance Procedures (CMP), Airworthiness Limitations (AWL), Instructions for Continued Airworthiness (ICA), and ETOPS requirements within the Computerized Maintenance Tracking System (CMTS).
- Validate completion of technical work in accordance with Maintenance Schedule Approval and coordinate adjustments as needed.
- Monitor aircraft utilization by fleet type to ensure compliance with Maintenance Schedule Approval.
- Focus on daily operations to maintain fleet readiness for network execution.
- Identify and implement workforce efficiencies with the Maintenance Planning Team.
- Manage conflicts between commercial and maintenance operations.
- Oversee the creation of dashboards for airline KPI metrics.
- Develop and amend relevant departmental policies.
Budget & Costs & Contracts
- Collaborate with senior management to maintain a 5-year maintenance forecast for cost planning.
- Prepare and monitor the department budget, reporting variances.
- Assist in determining maintenance requirements and costs with Line Maintenance leaders.
- Seek opportunities to improve maintenance efficiencies.
Other Requirements
- Coordinate with Maintenance Programs to ensure Maintenance Schedule Approval and Planning Documents are reflected in CMTS.
- Work with Maintenance Programs on task card development and amendments.
- Collaborate with Production and Maintenance Engineering on workload distribution.
- Coordinate with Maintenance Control on MEL priorities.
Safety & Miscellaneous
- Perform all duties with safety as a priority and report safety concerns.
- Perform additional duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 5 years of airline planning experience; at least 10 years in airline operations.
- Knowledge of industry practices and responsibilities related to the role.
- Experience in maintenance activities and supervision, including recent experience within the last two years.
- Valid Transport Canada Aircraft Maintenance Engineer License (M, E, or S).
- Proven leadership and mentoring skills.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
- Thorough knowledge of WestJet’s Maintenance Policies and Procedures.
- Knowledge of Transport Canada - Canadian Aviation Regulations (CARs).
- Basic understanding of HR practices such as performance management.
- Strong computer skills, including Maintenance programs (TRAX, Citrix) and Microsoft Office Suite.
