Job summary
A leading maritime company is seeking an experienced Captain to oversee the safe operation of vessels and manage crew performance onboard a cruise ship. The ideal candidate must hold a valid Captain's license, possess at least 5 years of experience, and demonstrate strong leadership and communication skills. This position is based in Johannesburg, South Africa and involves a commitment to safety and customer service.
Qualifications
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Captain on commercial vessels.
- Strong knowledge of maritime laws, regulations, and safety procedures.
- Good physical health and ability to work long hours and in various weather conditions.
Responsibilities
- Oversee the safe and efficient operation of the vessel.
- Manage and lead the crew, ensuring proper training and safety procedures.
- Maintain and update all necessary documentation related to the vessel and crew.
- Conduct regular safety inspections and drills.
- Communicate with onshore management to coordinate operations.

- Communicate with onshore management and other vessels to coordinate operations and resolve any issues
- Conduct regular safety inspections and drills to maintain a safe working environment
- Monitor weather and sea conditions and make necessary adjustments to the vessel's course
- Maintain a high level of professionalism and customer service at all times
Qualifications:
- Valid Captain's license and STCW certification
- Minimum of 5 years of experience as a Captain on commercial vessels
- Strong knowledge of maritime laws, regulations, and safety procedures
- Excellent leadership and communication skills
- Ability to make quick and effective decisions in high-pressure situations
- Good physical health and ability to work long hours and in various weather conditions
- Proficiency in English, both written and verbal
- Experience with electronic navigation systems and other relevant technology
