Doctors without Borders (MSF) is an international, independent, humanitarian medical organisation committed to two objectives: providing medical assistance to people affected by armed conflict, epidemics, healthcare exclusion, natural and man-made disasters; and speaking out about the plight of the populations assisted. MSF offers assistance to people based only on need and irrespective of race, religion, gender or political affiliation. Today, MSF is present in more than 70 countries, where thousands of MSF doctors, nurses, logisticians, water-and-sanitation experts, and other medical and non-medical professionals work together to bring essential health services to people caught in humanitarian crises.

Key Responsibilities:

1. Provide emergency resuscitation and required urgent medical stabilisation of critical patients.
2. Assess patients' fitness to undertake an operation before the surgery takes place.
3. Initiate anaesthesia, providing safe pre-operative, during and post-operative care using anaesthetics and pain management.
4. Work in a team of other health professionals to ensure patient wellbeing.
5. Perform administrative tasks in areas which relate to the care of patients, including summaries of patient treatment and the writing of discharge letters.
6. Attend multidisciplinary team meetings both on and off-site.
7. Participate in an agreed on-call rota and take on an equal share in providing emergency cover.

Requirements:

1. Medical Doctor with Diploma in Anaesthesia or Anaesthesiology specialisation.
2. Valid Registration with HPCSA.
3. Over 6 months of Anaesthesia experience in a busy hospital.
4. Good communication skills.
5. Team player.
6. Flexible to work in insecure contexts.
