The Fashion Textile Retail Assistant supports the daily operations of a textile retail store, focusing on fashion and garment fabrics. The role involves assisting customers in selecting suitable fabrics for clothing, keeping up with fashion trends, and ensuring excellent customer service. This role is ideal for someone with a keen interest in fashion, textiles, and retail sales.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Service & Styling Advice
- Greet customers warmly and assist them in choosing the right fabrics for garments such as dresses, suits, traditional wear, or custom pieces.
- Provide advice on fabric drape, weight, breathability, and suitability for different designs or occasions (e.g., bridal wear, formal, casual, traditional).
- Suggest suitable linings, trims, or matching accessories.
- Product & Fashion Knowledge
- Maintain in-depth knowledge of fabric types (e.g., chiffon, satin, crepe, cotton, jacquard, brocade, lace).
- Stay updated on current fashion trends, seasonal colors, and popular materials used in local fashion markets.
- Recommend fabrics based on current fashion demand or tailoring trends.
- Promote new arrivals, bestsellers, and promotional items.
- Meet sales targets and contribute to overall store performance.
- Ensure fabric displays, mannequins, and shelves are well-presented and visually appealing.
- Handle cashiering duties including billing, discounts, and payment processing.
- Assist in stock receiving, tagging, labeling, and organizing rolls or bolts of fabric.
- Monitor low stock levels and report to the supervisor for restocking.
- Store Maintenance
- Keep cutting tables, display areas, and fabric shelves neat and tidy.
- Ensure safety when handling fabric scissors, step ladders, or measuring tools.
- Help with general upkeep during opening and closing routines.
Requirements
- Education & Experience
- Minimum Diploma or Degree holder, with a background in fashion design, textiles, or garment production as a strong advantage.
- 1–2 years of retail or fabric store experience preferred.
- Skills & Attributes
- Strong interest in fashion and textiles.
- Excellent communication and styling skills.
- Ability to match fabric features with design needs.
- Basic measuring skills and understanding of fabric units (meters/yards).
- Able to work in a fast-paced, customer-focused retail environment.
Working Conditions
- Able to work weekends, public holidays, and shift schedules.
- May require light lifting of fabric rolls and standing for extended periods.
- Comfortable using scissors, measuring tape, and POS systems.
