Job Title: Principal Backend Engineer (Core Immutably)

Cambridge, MA

Context Labs is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to help drive our product initiatives with the Immutably Platform and analytics spaces. As an integral leader within the development team, you will lead the development of platform services, APIs, and related product capabilities. You will also provide thought leadership, upskill less senior engineers, and help define strategic linkages across our products. This role reports to the VP of Engineering.

1. Provide leadership on the API services engineering team as a technical authority.
2. Develop and maintain APIs and services for the Immutably Platform.
3. Collaborate with other teams and product owners to define and estimate business requirements, translating them into software tasks.
4. Lead hands-on software development across various projects, primarily in JVM-based environments.
5. Set standards by providing exemplary code, structure, and design guidelines.
6. Document designs, architecture, and code.
7. Conduct code reviews.
8. Lead technical talks on microservice-based systems and processes.
9. Design and implement scalable, performant, and maintainable solutions.
10. Work within an agile team to develop and complete products with best practices.
11. Coach and mentor team members through technological and methodological challenges.
12. Coordinate with a distributed team across multiple time zones.
13. Perform other duties as reasonably required by the company.

1. 12+ years of experience in full-stack development.
2. Excellent communication skills.
3. Deep understanding of modern application architectures.
4. Strong attention to detail and big-picture thinking.
5. Ability to work with highly abstract concepts and complex architectures.
6. Proficiency in object-oriented development.
7. Experience with unit and functional testing.
8. Experience in API development and integration (RESTful, GraphQL, gRPC).
9. Experience with Java frameworks such as Spring, Quarkus, Helidon.
10. Proficiency with Docker microservice architectures and Kubernetes.
11. Experience with relational databases like MySQL, PostgreSQL, or similar.
12. Experience with NoSQL or NewSQL databases.
13. Proficiency in source code management.

1. Experience with functional programming.
2. Experience with languages other than Java.
3. Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field.
