Job description

Principal Backend Engineer - EdgeShare

Cambridge, MA

About this position:

Context Labs is seeking a Principal Backend Engineer to help drive our product initiatives with the EdgeShare Platform and analytics spaces. As a key leader within the development team, you will lead the development of big data systems, APIs, and related product capabilities. You will also provide thought leadership, mentor less experienced engineers, and help define strategic linkages across our products. This role reports to the SVP, Engineering.

Responsibilities:

1. Provide technical leadership for the EdgeShare engineering team.
2. Develop and maintain data systems and services within the Immutably Platform.
3. Collaborate with other teams and product owners to define requirements and translate them into software tasks.
4. Lead projects using technologies such as Java, Scala, Python, etc.
5. Set coding and design standards for the team.
6. Document designs, architecture, and code.
7. Conduct code reviews.
8. Design scalable, performant, and maintainable solutions.
9. Work within an agile team to develop and deliver products.
10. Mentor team members on technological and methodological challenges.
11. Coordinate across distributed teams across multiple time zones.
12. Perform other duties as required by the company.

Experience & Skills:

1. 12+ years in big data systems development.
2. Excellent communication skills.
3. Understanding of modern application architectures.
4. Experience with data processing systems like Spark.
5. Proficiency with process orchestration tools such as Airflow, Dolphin, Dagster.
6. Experience with JVM and Python.
7. Proficiency in testing, API development (REST, GraphQL, gRPC), Java frameworks (Spring), Docker, Kubernetes, and RDBMS (MySQL, PostgreSQL).
8. Experience with data lakes, Databricks, and working independently.

Additional Experience:

1. Functional programming.
2. Experience with Kotlin, Quarkus, Helidon, NoSQL/NewSQL databases, Delta Sharing protocols.
3. Degree in computer science or related field.
