The Strathroy Addiction and Mental Health Worker (Float) is a flexible, cross‑trained role designed to provide responsive support across multiple program areas at the Strathroy site. This position ensures that clients receive timely, person‑centered care by assisting the service area experiencing the greatest need at any given time. Support may be delivered in a variety of settings, including in person at the Strathroy office, by phone, through walk‑in services, in the community, or at the Strathroy Middlesex General Hospital. The Float Worker collaborates with interdisciplinary teams, adapts to diverse program requirements, and contributes to seamless service delivery for individuals experiencing addiction and mental health challenges.

WHAT WE'RE OFFERING
- What you'll be making: Starting rate $27.14 per hour (Level 1 – Direct Service). Wage differential, based on regulation: $30.01 per hour for Level 1 – Direct Service, Regulated.
- Successful candidates who are registered with one of the designated professional colleges (e.g. OCSWSSW, CNO, COTO, CRPO, CPSO, or CPO) will receive the wage differential for regulation.
- Successful external applicants will start at Level 1, with grid progression based on seniority up to Level 8 ($34.41 per hour for non‑regulated, and $37.26 per hour for regulated); for internal applicants, grid level placement will occur as per the Collective Agreement.
- When you'll work: 48 hours biweekly; 9am‑4pm
- Benefits: 9% in lieu of benefits
- Pension plan: Immediately eligible for optional enrolment in the Healthcare of Ontario Pension Plan (HOOPP)
HOW YOU WILL BE MAKING A DIFFERENCE
Crisis Assessment – In collaboration with the participant
- Complete face‑to‑face mental health assessments based on theory of crisis management including rapid response, risk assessment, de‑escalation, stabilization, and referral to determine participant needs and level of risk.
- Establish a therapeutic relationship to maximize the benefits of engagement between the staff person and the client.
- Engage Emergency Services when it is determined that additional intervention is required.
- Assess social and environmental factors impacting the client.
- Assess the adequacy of resources/supports currently available to the client in the county.
- Determine the impact of psychiatric symptoms on functioning.
- Identify risk factors related to the safety of clients and staff as well as relapse.
- Assess barriers to successful community living (e.g. treatment options, transportation, finances, etc.).
- Ensure the assessment incorporates cultural and ethnic factors.
- Obtain information, as needed, from other relevant sources.
- Identify areas requiring additional assessment.
Case Management and Community Wellness
- Advocate as necessary to facilitate access to services and supports with the objective of remediating immediate crisis situation.
- Support the participant to access needed resources.
- Assist the participant to identify and connect with personal/natural supports.
Service Coordination and Advocacy
- Have knowledge about rural community resources relevant to clients, including other mental health services, entitlement and benefit programs (e.g. ODSP, Ontario Works, Middlesex Housing, etc.).
- Identify, develop and maintain good links with a wide range of community resources and community partners.
- Assist the client to obtain needed resources by educating and supporting the client to access resources, linking the client to appropriate services, advocating with or for the client when needed.
- Demonstrate knowledge of community resources and its place within the mental health care system.
- Coordinate and facilitate, with the client, linkages to recommended services and supports in the community.
- When appropriate, act as liaison with caregivers and service/support providers who are involved with the client to facilitate a coordinated approach to service provision.
- Assist in building positive working relationships across the service system.
- Participate in public education and advocacy.
First Contact / Information and Referral
- Serve as initial contact in greeting and directing clients, staff and guests to CMHA‑Strathroy site with a primary focus on providing a welcoming environment to all site visitors.
- Provide telephone assistance to clients seeking support, face‑to‑face appointments and/or information about mental health services & supports.
- Provide health teaching and information regarding a variety of coping techniques and strategies; e.g. grounding, breathing techniques, self‑care, nutrition, sleep hygiene, techniques to enhance overall well‑being, the completion of crisis plans.
- Provide information regarding resources found within both the broader mental health system and the community in general.
- Provide referrals to the Transitional Case Management (TCM) Team as necessary.
- Ensure that reception areas are maintained in a manner that is tidy and inviting, and that public bulletin boards and brochure supply areas are kept current and accessible.
- Ensure sign in book is updated to assist in tracking of all persons in the building as per Health and Safety requirements.
- Retrieve and bring the sign in book when an evacuation of the building has occurred in order for a roll call to be completed.
- Retrieve, sort, date stamp correspondence, and distribute accordingly.
- Coordinate and distribute all incoming e‑mails to the general e‑mail account, all incoming faxes, and all incoming postal mail.
- Contribute to a welcoming, positive and professional environment for clients, community members and staff.
WHAT YOU'LL NEED TO APPLY
Police Vulnerable Sector Check Requirements: Successful candidates must have a Police Vulnerable Sector Check completed in the last six months. Interested applicants who reside in the City of London and are in need of a PVSC are encouraged to apply for one as soon as possible as PVSCs in the City of London are currently taking approximately two weeks to be processed and offers of employment cannot be made without receipt of a PVSC.
We require the following qualifications:
- Degree or diploma in a health or social science discipline (primary proof of credentials will be required during the hiring process i.e., original degree/diploma or official transcript).
- Valid Driver’s Licence and access to a personal vehicle with at least $2 million in liability insurance for occasionally transporting clients.
- Current, satisfactory Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC).
- Demonstrated ability to attend work regularly.
We prefer the following qualifications:
- Knowledge of and experience working with participants with a serious mental illness in a community setting.
- Knowledge of community resources in Strathroy‑Middlesex County and surrounding areas.
- Training in crisis intervention and resolution including ASIST and First Aid/CPR.
- Bilingual in both official languages; preference will be given to candidates who are competent in both official languages of Canada.
