This research topic invites proposals focused on the study of the economic and managerial dimensions of space-related activities—those that create value for humanity through the exploration, research, utilization, and governance of outer space. The economic-engineering perspective provides a robust framework to analyze the strategic, operational, and commercial challenges of this rapidly expanding frontier, as well as the implications for Earth-based applications and industries.

The research group employs a diverse set of methodologies, including econometric modeling, simulation, survey analysis, text mining, and case studies. The main goal is to define models, tools, methodologies, and best practices that can guide managers, entrepreneurs, and policy makers in understanding and shaping this new economic domain.

Research proposals may address (but are not limited to) the following areas:

• Mapping the techno-scientific and commercial ecosystem involved in the global space economy, with a focus on sectoral interdependencies;
• Studying business model innovation in companies operating in the so-called New Space Economy ;
• Developing asset valuation models for spatial resources, particularly in relation to low Earth orbits and orbital infrastructure;
• Analyzing the management and development of space-related infrastructures and logistics;
• Assessing the terrestrial spillovers of space economy activities, including technological transfer and industrial synergies;
• Exploring open innovation dynamics (e.g., spin-ins, spin-outs, cross-industry knowledge transfer) within the space sector.

The topic is particularly relevant for candidates with backgrounds in innovation studies, economics of technology, strategic management, or systems engineering. Proposals can be theoretical, empirical, or policy-oriented, and may involve interdisciplinary collaboration across fields such as aerospace, economics, data science, and organizational studies.
