Journeyperson Truck and Transport Mechanic - $3,000 Hiring Bonus!

SOUTHLAND is excited to be expanding our routes throughout the Regional Municipality of Halifax for the 2025 – 2026 school year and are currently hiring multiple Mechanics to join our team. SOUTHLAND is currently offering a $3,000 hiring bonus for Mechanics. Receive half after 1 month and the remainder following 3 months of employment! Relocation assistance also available for out of town candidates.

Reporting to the Shop Foreman, you will work in a fast-paced environment maintaining a fleet of school buses. SOUTHLAND offers a state-of-the-art environment with an emphasis on safety and training. To qualify for this position, you must be a reliable self-starter with strong interpersonal skills.

Currently hiring for both day (7 : 00 am - 3 : 30 pm or 8 : 00 am - 4 : 30 pm) and evening (3 : 30 pm - 12 : 00 am) shifts.

Wage : $40.00 - $42.00 per hour

Position Requirements :

• Valid driver’s license; class 2 license considered an asset
• Pre-employment drug testing
• Clear criminal record
• Analytical and troubleshooting skills
• Own hand tools
• Fluent in written and spoken English
• Gasoline and propane-powered equipment experience an asset

Primary Duties and Responsibilities :

• Ongoing maintenance / repair of school buses
• Diagnose mechanical and electrical problems
• Respond to breakdowns
• Spring and winter maintenance
• Complete all documentation associated with equipment repairs
