Qualifications

  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistants/Technician training program required.
  • Experience in phlebotomy needed.
  • Experience working with elderly clients and individuals with disabilities is an asset.

The Medical Laboratory Technician is responsible for ensuring the safe, accurate, and efficient collection of client specimens, including data entry, phlebotomy, and specimen preparation for transportation. These procedures do not require interpretation or independent judgment and are performed under the supervision of the Medical Laboratory Technologist.

Skills and Qualifications Required

  • Graduate of an approved Laboratory Assistants/Technician training program
  • Experience in phlebotomy
  • Experience working with elderly clients and individuals with disabilities is an asset

Position Responsibilities

  • Obtain blood and urine specimens from inpatients, outpatients, and staff as requested by Occupational Health Services
  • Prepare samples and coordinate referrals to licensed laboratories for analysis, and distribute test results
  • Support Point of Care Testing programs
  • Maintain equipment, inventory, and ensure a safe working environment in the Laboratory
  • Adhere to departmental and organizational policies, including privacy and security policies
