Job summary

A mining company based in South Africa seeks a qualified Safety Officer with experience in contractor management and safety administration. The ideal candidate should have a Grade 12 qualification or equivalent, a National Diploma in Safety Management, and at least 5 years of relevant experience. Responsibilities include managing Health and Safety reports, instilling SHE compliance culture, and ensuring training and performance management of staff. Position requires adaptability and strong analytical skills.

Qualifications

  • Clear security screening record.

Responsibilities

  • At least 5 years contractor management experience, as well as administration knowledge within a mining, services or processing environment.
  • Medically fit to work in the specific business area

  • Valid driver’s license (if applicable).
Advantageous Qualifications
  • An auditor certificate will be advantageous
Key Responsibilities
  • Administration
  • Manages all relevant data received through Health and Safety reports, screening and profiles by gathering, monitoring, manipulating, collating and analysing data based on experience and knowledge of the function.
  • Presents information to management in the form of reports and provides advice based on specialist knowledge by compiling reports-based information received, scrutinizing submitted reports from the Operation and providing feedback.
  • Attends and participates in meetings by providing required information based on acquired knowledge and experience.
  • Keeps abreast of latest relevant Health and Safety developments, innovations and technologies by means of liaising with other sources and by attending meetings on a regular basis.
  • Assists with the maintenance and updates of relevant policies, procedures and regulations in line with current trends and developments and based on own specialist knowledge.
  • Ensures that costs are controlled and wastage of resources is eliminated by working within prescribed budgets. Reports deviations to Supervisor.
  • Performs any other activities necessary for the effective completion of his / her work. Building a values-based organisational culture
  • Actively support and meaningfully participate in the execution of the segment specific organisational development plan. This support will manifest in the targeted shift in culture as described by a valid culture assessment. ESG Compliance

  • Maintain and comply with SHE standards within the work environment.
  • Participate in risk assessments and investigate and take appropriate action as per identified risks.
  • Ensure adherence to all company policies and procedures. SHE Management:

  • Maintain department’s documents.
  • Comply with requirements of the Quality Management System. Focus on safe production & operational excellence

  • Provide coaching and on-the-job training to reporting staff.
  • Manage performance and development of reporting staff.
  • Ensure fair work allocation for team members.
