Paralegal (Regulatory & Environmental)

SevernTrentLife
Coventry
GBP 25,000 - 35,000
Job description

Our people are what makes Severn Trent a truly exciting and inclusive place to work. We’re a team of over 9,000 people with a purpose to deliver one of life’s essentials, and we do it all while thriving in our unique culture.

We’re a growing, Midlands based FTSE100 plc and welcome people from all walks of life, celebrating their individuality, as we know diverse minds, experiences and backgrounds help us to learn and better serve our customers and the communities we represent.

It’s an exciting time to join, as we have a huge ambition to deliver bigger and better than ever before over our next 5-year regulatory period. If you’re seeking an exciting and thoroughly rewarding career, Severn Trent is the place to be.

EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW

Due to growth within our Legal Team, we have an exciting new opportunity for a Paralegal (Regulatory & Environmental) to join us on a 12-month fixed term contract.

Join a high-performing legal team supporting Severn Trent Water and HD on regulatory, water quality, and environmental matters. You’ll collaborate across the business to manage regulator engagement (EA, NRW, DWI, Ofwat), respond to incidents, and support audits and investigations.

Working closely with Senior Legal Counsel, you’ll help navigate legal processes, contribute to enforcement actions, and protect company assets from third-party risks. This role offers a unique opportunity to influence regulatory strategy and drive improvements in a dynamic sector

T his role does not require a Legal Qualification —you’ll work under the guidance of experienced legal professionals. We’re proud of our strong track record in developing talent, and this role offers a fantastic opportunity to build your skills in stakeholder engagement, sharpen your written communication across all levels, and deepen your understanding of our regulated business.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Support regulatory engagement: respond to information requests, investigate incidents, and present evidence to regulators and internal stakeholders

  • Assist with regulatory challenges and enforcement actions, including civil/criminal proceedings and formal responses

  • Collaborate on cross-team process improvements to enhance regulatory performance

  • Liaise with external legal counsel and contribute to internal reporting, including STEC (Executive) and board updates

WHAT YOU’LL BRING TO THE ROLE

We’re looking for someone with strong organisational and analytical skills, who thrives under pressure and pays close attention to detail. You’ll be a team player with a curious mindset, eager to learn and challenge the status quo.

Excellent communication and writing skills are essential, along with proficiency in Microsoft Office tools. An interest in the water sector and environmental regulation is key.

You’ll need the ability to quickly understand different business areas, prioritise effectively, and drive improvements with determination and persistence.

Coaching on legal and regulatory matters will be provided

WHAT’S IN IT FOR YOU

Working here isn’t just a job. You can build a career at Severn Trent. We’ll reward you for it, too. We have a range of benefits that recognise great work, and award-winning training to help you reach your potential. And we’ll also help you play your part in looking after the environment and the communities where we live.

  • 25 days holiday + bank holidays (and the ability to buy/ sell up to 5 days per year)

  • Annual bonus scheme (of up to £1,500 per annum based on company performance)

  • Leading pension scheme – we will double your contribution (up to 15% when you contribute 7.5%)

  • Sharesave – the chance to buy Severn Trent Plc shares at a discounted rate

  • Dedicated training and development with our ‘Academy’

  • Electric vehicle scheme and retail offers

  • Family friendly policies

  • Two volunteering days per year

At Severn Trent, you’ll be joining a culture that cares, one that works together to achieve, grow, and develop. And when it comes to our employee engagement scores they’re some of the highest of energy and utility companies globally, and we believe that is down to our wonderful culture, created by our wonderful people.

But don’t get us wrong, we understand the flexibility that working remotely can bring.
