The Regional Safety Manager must be an effective communicator, able to send clear, concise, and consistent messages verbally, in writing, and in public speaking forums. This leader will oversee compliance activities and program components, providing direction and guidance to a team to deliver results. They will develop and implement strategic EHS projects to improve business outcomes while ensuring alignment with both regional regulations and global standards.

The successful candidate will manage a team of safety professionals, mentoring and providing ongoing support to ensure the highest safety standards are upheld. This individual must possess strong leadership capabilities, able to influence both internal and external stakeholders, and work closely with key partners including physical security, vendors, compliance officers, risk management, and fire/life safety systems. Additionally, they will collaborate with employees and contractors to achieve specific safety objectives and continuously enhance operational safety.

As a Regional Safety Manager, you will lead your team to identify and mitigate risks across data centers, contributing to both day-to-day operations and new construction projects. Reporting to senior leadership, you will ensure that safety strategies and practices are not only compliant but also innovative and forward-thinking, ensuring a culture of safety across all levels of the organization

Diverse Experiences
AWS values diverse experiences. Even if you do not meet all of the qualifications and skills listed in the job description, we encourage candidates to apply. If your career is just starting, hasn’t followed a traditional path, or includes alternative experiences, don’t let it stop you from applying.

Why AWS?
Amazon Web Services (AWS) is the world’s most comprehensive and broadly adopted cloud platform. We pioneered cloud computing and never stopped innovating — that’s why customers from the most successful startups to Global 500 companies trust our robust suite of products and services to power their businesses.

Inclusive Team Culture
Here at AWS, it’s in our nature to learn and be curious. Our employee-led affinity groups foster a culture of inclusion that empower us to be proud of our differences. Ongoing events and learning experiences, including our Conversations on Race and Ethnicity (CORE) and AmazeCon (gender diversity) conferences, inspire us to never stop embracing our uniqueness.

Mentorship & Career Growth
We’re continuously raising our performance bar as we strive to become Earth’s Best Employer. That’s why you’ll find endless knowledge-sharing, mentorship and other career-advancing resources here to help you develop into a better-rounded professional.

Work/Life Balance
We value work-life harmony. Achieving success at work should never come at the expense of sacrifices at home, which is why flexible work hours and arrangements are part of our culture. When we feel supported in the workplace and at home, there’s nothing we can’t achieve in the cloud.

AWS Infrastructure Services owns the design, planning, delivery, and operation of all AWS global infrastructure. In other words, we’re the people who keep the cloud running. We support all AWS data centers and all of the servers, storage, networking, power, and cooling equipment that ensure our customers have continual access to the innovation they rely on. We work on the most challenging problems, with thousands of variables impacting the supply chain — and we’re looking for talented people who want to help.

You’ll join a diverse team of software, hardware, and network engineers, supply chain specialists, security experts, operations managers, and other vital roles. You’ll collaborate with people across AWS to help us deliver the highest standards for safety and security while providing seemingly infinite capacity at the lowest possible cost for our customers. And you’ll experience an inclusive culture that welcomes bold ideas and empowers you to own them to completion.

Key job responsibilities
- Lead cross-functional collaboration with various Amazon teams (Infrastructure Environmental, Data Center Operations, Physical Security, Logistics, Capacity Installation, Network Scaling Infrastructure, Legal, HR, Engineering, and others) to identify safety and health deficiencies, driving the development and implementation of permanent solutions that reduce risk and ensure compliance with both internal and external regulations.

- Build and maintain strong relationships with external vendors and contractors (General Contractors, Sub-contractors, Emergency Services, Underwriters, etc.), ensuring that safety standards and procedures are aligned with Amazon’s operational needs and regional requirements.

- Provide leadership in adapting to fast-paced environments with evolving circumstances, guiding your team through changes in direction, strategy, and deadlines. Anticipate items that may require escalation to senior leadership.

- Oversee and manage high-impact, region-wide and/or global projects, providing clear direction and support to teams in achieving key business and safety objectives, even when project scopes are not well defined.

- Influence and drive safety culture across multiple regions, advocating for the adoption of Amazon’s leadership principles within your team and promoting positive safety behaviors at all levels.

- Lead efforts in the anticipation, identification, and evaluation of hazardous conditions and practices, directing your team in hazard assessments.

- Develop, oversee, and continuously improve hazard control designs, methods, procedures, and programs, ensuring alignment with global safety strategies and regional regulatory requirements.

- Manage the implementation, administration, and enforcement of hazard control programs across your team and operations, ensuring effective communication and adherence to safety protocols.

- Regularly audit, measure, and evaluate the effectiveness of hazard controls and safety programs using data-driven approaches (such as Pareto analysis), identifying trends and recurring issues to drive continuous improvement.

- Present clear data to senior leadership regarding mitigation of hazards and the value of proactive hazard prevention, translating complex safety information into actionable insights.

- Guide your team and operations in implementing strategies to mitigate hazards, ensuring that all levels of the organization are informed and engaged in the process of maintaining a safe work environment.

- Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing team by setting clear expectations, providing regular feedback, and ensuring that team members have the resources and opportunities to grow professionally. Foster a culture of learning and continuous improvement within the team.

- Develop team members' leadership skills and technical competencies through targeted coaching, professional development opportunities, and by offering stretch assignments that support career advancement.

- Drive team performance and accountability through goal-setting and performance management, ensuring that each team member understands their role in supporting broader safety and business objectives.

- Promote a positive and inclusive work environment by supporting diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts, and creating opportunities for open communication and collaboration within the team.
