Job description

Job summary

The post holders will collaborate with the Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC) team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King's College Hospital, as well as with specialist haemoglobinopathy teams at Lewisham and Croydon University Hospitals and other local centres across the SELSE HCC regional network.

Due to changes in tertiary service organization for haemoglobinopathy and rare congenital anaemias, regional HCCs have been established by NHS England to support specialist teams in delivering and coordinating care for affected children and adults. HCCs are responsible for monitoring care standards, service development, and education.

SELSE HCC, formed by King's College Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trusts, manages the UK's largest sickle cell disease cohort and hosts the National Haemoglobinopathy Panel overseeing all HCCs nationally. It is part of King's Health Partners (KHP), linking leading NHS trusts and King's College London for research and clinical excellence.

This post targets senior specialist trainees aiming to develop NHS service, network management, teaching, and writing skills, while gaining experience managing haemoglobinopathy and rare anaemia patients throughout their lives.

Main duties of the job

Post holders will work with the Haemoglobinopathy Coordinating Centre (HCC) team at Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trust and King's College Hospital, collaborating with specialist haemoglobinopathy teams at Lewisham and Croydon University Hospitals, as well as other local centres within the SELSE HCC regional network.

Regional HCCs were established by NHS England to support specialist haemoglobinopathy teams in delivering and coordinating care for children and adults with haemoglobinopathy and rare congenital anaemias. They oversee care standards, service development, and education.

The SELSE HCC, formed by King's College Hospital and Guy's and St Thomas' NHS Foundation Trusts, manages the UK's largest sickle cell disease cohort and hosts the National Haemoglobinopathy Panel, which coordinates all HCCs nationally.

SELSE HCC is part of King's Health Partners, a collaboration between King's College London and leading NHS Trusts in London, including Guy's and St Thomas', King's College Hospital, and South London and the Maudsley, with Haematology as one of its key Clinical Academic Partnerships.
