Job Summary

Join Yorkshire Ambulance Service NHS Trust as our Chief Clinical Information Officer (CCIO), a pivotal senior leadership role driving digital transformation across urgent and emergency care. As the Trust’s most senior clinician for digital health, you will provide expert clinical leadership, shaping and delivering our Digital Strategy to enhance patient safety, clinical quality, and operational efficiency.

Working in partnership with the Chief Digital Information Officer (CDIO) and collaborating with national, regional, and local partners, you will champion digital innovation, clinical safety, and information stewardship. The CCIO acts as the principal clinical adviser on all matters relating to digital health, guiding the Trust Board and Executive Leadership Team, and embedding data‑driven decision‑making and digital capability across the workforce.

You will represent the Trust in regional and national CCIO and Digital networks, influencing policy, research, and collaborative initiatives. The role demands visible leadership, mentorship of emerging digital leaders, and a commitment to fostering a culture of learning, inclusion, and continuous improvement.

Main duties of the job

As CCIO, you will provide strategic clinical leadership for digital transformation, ensuring digital systems and data improve patient safety, clinical quality and operational efficiency. You will advise the Trust Board and senior leaders on digital health strategy, governance and programme delivery. Leading digital clinical governance and information stewardship, you will embed data‑driven decision‑making and digital innovation across the workforce. You will represent the Trust in regional and national digital networks, influence policy, and foster collaborative initiatives. Mentoring digital leaders and championing digital literacy, you will promote a culture of learning, inclusion and continuous improvement. You will build partnerships with NHS England, regional CCIOs, professional bodies and emergency service partners. Overseeing the design and optimisation of digital systems, you will ensure they meet clinical, operational and safety requirements. You will lead the development of digital health policies, ensure compliance with standards, manage budgets, and provide clinical assurance for digital investments. You will promote a culture of reporting, learning and continuous improvement in digital clinical safety.

Responsibilities

  • Resource Management: Manage budgets for CCIO‑led programmes, provide clinical assurance for digital investments, and oversee procurement and contract management.
  • Continuous Improvement: Promote a culture of reporting, learning, and improvement in digital clinical safety, and collaborate with academic and research partners.
Qualifications and Knowledge
  • Essential: Registered Health Care Professional e.g. a Paramedic or Nurse with current registration with a relevant professional body
  • Desirable: Prince2 Foundation certificate
  • Desirable: Managing Successful Programmes Foundation Certificate
  • Desirable: Post graduate qualification in Clinical informatics, Health Informatics, Digital health or equivalent
Experience
  • Essential: Significant clinical leadership experience within the pre‑hospital urgent and emergency care setting
  • Essential: Proven track record of successful large‑scale digital project and programme delivery within a structured programme management environment
Skills and Competencies
  • Essential: Strong understanding of digital clinical safety standards (DCB0129/DCB0160) and information governance principles including the Caldicott principles
  • Essential: Excellent interpersonal and communication skills to build effective working relationships, influence and collaborate with clinical, operational and digital stakeholders across organisational boundaries and at all levels.
