Orchard Brae School - Permanent Part Time

PVG Membership

With effect from 1 April 2023,where a role requires PVG membership, candidates will be required to meet the cost of the PVG membership. This applies only to roles with a full time equivalent salary of £30,000 and above.(Teaching roles and jobs at Grade 12 and above (currently £32,555 per annum / £16.92 per hour).The Council will pay for the PVG membership cost initially, either £18 for existing PVG scheme members,or £59 for non-members, and this cost will be deducted from an employee's first FULL month's salary

A Care Co-ordinator plays a key role in undertaking assessments for children with additional support needs,with a focus on the childs needs as impacted on by their disability and the parents' capacity to meet these needs. The assessment informs the type of support/intervention required to assist parents to safely care for their child. This requires a multi-agency approach to child centred planning and co-ordination of services to enable the child to be supported to live with their family and within the community where possible

A Co-Ordinator undertakes the role of Lead Professional where required, including to monitor and review care packages. This will require the postholder to work within a team, to develop and maintain professional relationships across Health and Education and other partner agencies. A Co-ordinator will provide support to children and their families as part of an assessment or identified piece of intervention

The role requires an understanding of child development, attachment and learning
disabilities/difficulties. The Co-Ordinator must present as professional, confident, self-motivated, and have strong organisation and communication skills. The ability to advocate for children and families to ensure their views are taken into account and their rights are promoted and protected is essential. Experience and ability to produce quality reports,prioritise work,have good time-management,whilst being flexible around conflicting demands is important

The post holder needs to hold as a minimum:

HNC / SVQ level 3 in Social Care or BA Social Work or equivalent, Diploma / Degree
level qualification with experience of working with children and families
PVG

The postholder is able to demonstrate:

The ability to assess and balance risk and protective factors within a child protection
framework.
The ability to assess needs, formulate and implement effective social work interventions.
The ability to prioritise tasks, manage own workload and be accountable for quality case work with children and families to achieve positive outcomes.
The ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing and build rapport with a range of individuals including children and families and other professionals.
The ability to negotiate effectively to reach a resolution and successfully implementing change.
The ability to deal with complex issues in a sensitive and appropriate manner.
The ability to use information management systems to maintain accurate management information and high-quality data.
Ability to analyse and evaluate complex information to produce high quality concise
reports to inform quality casework and business decisions.
The ability to provide social work interventions to children and families and present
concise reports about complex information as required to internal, external audiences including presenting in Court.
Ability to use research findings and statutory guidance to inform social work
practice.

Ability to communicate effectively with children, staff, carers, and internal/external
professionals to achieve improved outcomes for service users
Attention to detail; specifically, around financial responsibilities and accountability
for all expenditure made on behalf of children and families and record on CareFirst
as required
Participation in individual, team, and service development
The ability to produce and present high quality reports including an analysis of the
presenting issues
Interviewing, investigation, and assessment skills (including finance), person centred
planning, developing, monitoring, and evaluating agreed outcomes
The ability to prioritise, plan and manage workload and to manage constant and
often conflicting demands
Advocating on behalf of children and families in need by ensuring that their views
are taken into account and that their rights are promoted and protected
A positive value base and awareness of Child Development theories
Ability to make decisions and take responsibility for own practice, seeking advice
and support as necessary
Ability to manage priorities, time and meet deadlines
Ability to manage complex cases and high risk
